What is Ethereum Merge?

Originally, the Beacon Chain was sent separately from the Mainnet, the chain we use today. The Ethereum Mainnet is still secured by proof-of-work, while the beacon chain runs in parallel using proof-of-stake. Ethereum Merge or Update is when these two systems finally meet. Imagine that Ethereum is a spaceship that is not quite ready for an interstellar journey. With the Beacon chain, the community has developed a new engine and a tough body. When that time comes, the current starship will dock with this new system and merge into one starship, ready to take a few light-years in earnest and explore the cosmos.
