NFL ALL (THANKSGIVING) DAY

    Introduction

    The NFL, or National Football League, is a professional American football league consisting of 32 clubs, half from each of the AFC and NFC conferences (NFC). For American football, the National Football League (NFL) is the pinnacle of professional competition. The regular season of the NFL goes from early September to early January, with each club playing 17 games and having one bye week. The preseason lasts three weeks in August. The Super Bowl is played annually between the AFC and NFC conference champions in February. The playoffs are a single-elimination tournament that features seven teams from each conference (four division winners and three wild card teams). There is a main office for the league in the Big Apple.

    NFL All Day is a digital collectible marketplace that lets football fans collect video highlights in the form of NFTs and connect with other like-minded fans from around the world. Link

    The 2022 Thanksgiving Day tripleheader will feature three teams, including two division champions, that advanced to the playoffs the previous year in the National Football League.

    Method

    In the current dashboard, I will examine the effect of the NFL Thanksgiving games on NFL All Day NFT sales by comparing data from during week of Thanksgiving with the days over year.

    As was previously reported, Thanksgiving 2022 matchups were scheduled for the 24th of November. This means that the week of November 24th, 2022, and the days following will be known as ‘Thanksgiving week(2022)’.

    And the days before called as ‘Pre Thanksgiving weeks(2022)’.

    Flow.core.ez nft sales is the primary table that will be utilized for this bounty that filtered by NFL All Day NFT Contract: "A.e4cf4bdc1751c65d.AllDay". We need to determine the daily USD value of the $FLOW token, hence flow.core.fact prices table was used in order to extract the USD amount of NFL All Day sales that were conducted with FLOW token (Dapper Utility Token is a stablecoin = $1), as there are two different currencies that can be used to purchase NFL All Day NFTs (Flow Token and Dapper Utility Token).

    Additionally, the flow.core.dim allday metadata table was used to extract the name of Teams in order to determine their sales metric overview.

    ✍🏻 Conclusion

    The data presented above, which compares sales for NFL All Day during Thanksgiving week to sales for the entire previous year, indicates that:

    • Sales of this NFT collection did not increase noticeably over the week leading up to Thanksgiving, and perhaps the main reason is because the NFT ecosystem as a whole in the cryptocurrency market is not in its bright days, as we have seen declining sales activity of this NFT collection over time.
    • To be fair, this did have a good effect on the participating teams, as evidenced by an uptick in sales during the week of Thanksgiving. However, this rise was scarcely remarkable or dramatic.
    • Perhaps as a result of the heightened activity of the Thanksgiving holiday, we also observed a shift in the composition of the top traders (particularly purchasers) over the Thanksgiving week compared to the top buyers overall.

    Although the majority of buyers bought their NFTs by average volume in the $5-$10 range in both periods, the majority of sellers sold out of their NFTs in the same $5-$10 range during Thanksgiving week. whereas, in the previous year prior to Thanksgiving week, the majority of NFT sellers sold their NFTs in quantities ranging from $10 to $25.

    As shown in the figures above, the market scenario may be largely to blame for the gradual but noticeable fall in the sales trend line of NFL All Day NFTs over time.

    However, we do not observe any appreciable uptick in sales activity throughout the Thanksgiving week, and as was indicated above, it appears that this Thanksgiving event did not have a remarkable impact on NFL All Day sales activity, especially when compared to recent days prior to Thanksgiving. Specifically, as in the previous year before Thanksgiving weeks, all of the rest days saw average sales volumes fall below the 7-day moving average, with the exception of November 30 and December 1.

    In the following chart I tried to calculate the percentage of sales metrics for each team, over Thanksgiving week in relative to Pre Thanksgiving weeks. For this I divided the sales metrics in both period in total state.

    As can be seen the Washington Commanders has had the most percentages of sales metrics relative to pre thanksgiving weeks, that followed by Detroit Lions.

    The above charts show a comparison of NFL All Days sales over the Thanksgiving week this year to sales for the same week last year.

    We observe that over the week of Thanksgiving, a total of 36.7k sales were made by 4863 distinct buyers and 6121 unique sellers, generating 604k $USD in volume from the trading of 32.6k NFTs.

    As the average and median sales volumes during this week were still lower than annual sales medians, it is safe to say that this event did not have much of an effect on NFT All Day sales.

    The following visuals show the distribution of Sales transactions, buyer, sellers and sold out NFTs count by average sales volume($) in both assessed period.

    According to these charts, can be seen that the majority of sales during the Thanksgiving week were done with less than $5 volume (With 37.2%) while during the past year, the most number of sales were done in range of 10 ~ $25 volume with 32.7% of total sales transactions count.
