What is Osmosis?

Osmosis is a DEX protocol, which means it uses smart contracts to determine the price of digital assets, to produce liquidity via a peer-to-peer (P2P) methodology, and to exact trades between users. This approach to an exchange platform is known as an AMM — a DEX protocol that prices crypto assets in liquidity pools.

$OSMO is the native token of the Osmosis network. Primarily, OSMO is used for staking to secure the Osmosis chain. As a PoS token, OSMO is inflationary. Over time, new tokens will be minted and entered into circulation. The maximum number of OSMO tokens has been set at 1 billion.

Methodology

In this dashboard, I am going to analyze the behavior of active users on Osmosis. But, First of all, I am going to define these users in 2 ways:

1- The Users Who Perform At Least 1 Transaction on Osmosis on 5 or More Than 5 Days in a Week (Even a Single Week). These users are called Active Users in this dashboard.

2- The Users Who Perform At least 1 Transaction on Osmosis on 5 or More than 5 Days a week IN ALL WEEKS Since Osmosis Launch. These Users Are Called HyperActive Users in this dashboard.

The majority of analysis about these users will be about their LP (Liquidity Providing) and Swap activity on Osmosis. Also, I am going to analyze some data about their incoming and outgoing token transfers to/from Osmosis.

The main tables that we are going to use for this bounty are:

• osmosis.core.fact_transactions (For Identifying Active and HyperActive Users),
• osmosis.core.fact_swaps (For Swap Activity)
• osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions (For Liquidity Providing Activities).
• osmosis.core.fact_transfers (For Tokens Transfers Activity)

Based on the above charts, there are 112.1k Active Users on Osmosis who have performed transactions in 5 days or more than 5 days in a week. We can see the top 10 of them and their total number of active days in the bar chart.

Also, we can see there are only 9 HypeActive Users (wallets who have performed transactions in 5 days or more, in All weeks since the Osmosis Launch). The users osmo1tew2mp3racvkcye5qj5vyyqf22sgr6zefwcaln is the most daily active user on Osmosis with 588 days of activity in this ecosystem.

According to the left charts, Swap activity of both Active and HyperActive users on Osmosis is more than Liquidity Providing Actions.

Also, The number of Active users who have performed Swap Transactions is more than the number of users who have performed Liquidity Providing actions.

All HyperActive users have performed both LP and Swap activities but the frequency of Swap actions is more than Liquidity providing.

Based on the left charts, Most number of Active Users (81% of them) have performed both Swap and LP actions and the others have done only Swap transactions. there is also less than 0.3% of them have only done LP actions.

On HyperActive Users, all of them (all 9) have performed both Swap and LP Actions.

As we see, in all of days, the number of swap transactions by Active users is more than Liquidity Providing Actions.

The highest activity of these users were achieved during January - May 2022. After this timespan, we can see decreasing trend of both Swap and LP actions (especially LPs) by Active users over time.

same as active users, in all of days, the number of swap transactions by HyperActive users is more than Liquidity Providing Actions.

The highest activity of these users were also achieved during January - May 2022. After this timespan, we can see decreasing trend of both Swap and LP actions (especially LPs) over time but they are still more active than Active Users.

Similar to the active users, The highest number of swap actions by these users have achieved on May 2022 (during Terra collapse)

According to the left chart, in an average day, the number of swap transactions and also Swappers (for both Active and HyperActive users) is more than the number of Liquidity Providing Actions and Liquidity Providers.

Based on the left chart, we can see an average Active and HyperActive user on Osmosis is performing way more Swap transactions (almost 3x more) than Liquidity-providing actions.

According to the left charts, most number of active users have performed only 2 - 10 LP actions while most number of them have performed 101-250 Swap transactions which is very higher !

For HyperActive Users, we can see most of them have performed 501 - 1000 LP actions while this number for swap activity is more than 1000 times!

According to the left chart, the number of outgoing transfers from Osmosis by Active users is a little more than the number of incoming transfers by them to the Osmosis ecosystem.

But, for the HyperActive users, we can see the number of incoming transfers to Osmosis by them is more than the number of outgoing token transfers from Osmosis.

According to the above charts, Activity of Token transfers by Active Users was increasing over time till March 2022 but after that, we can see a light decreasing trend over time. Also, the number of outgoing transfers in most of the days is more than Incoming transfers.

But for the HyperActive users, We can see continous high transfer activity of these users on Osmosis over time till today. Moreover, we can see the number of incoming token transfers to Osmosis by these HyperActive users in almost all of the days is more than Outgoing transfers by them.

According to the left charts, in an average day, The number of Outgoing transfers by Active users is more than incoming transfers.

But for the HyperActive users, daily average number of incoming transfers to Osmosis by them is more than Outgoing transfers.

Similar to the previous chart, An average Active Users on Osmosis perform more outgoing transfers from Osmosis than its incoming transfers.

But an average HyperActive Osmosis users usually perform more Incoming transfers to Omosis.

According to the above charts, we can see an increasing Total OSMO balance of both Active and HyperActive users over time but their $OSMO balance has declined on after start of the new year.

The average OSMO balance of both Active and HyperActive users have decreased dramatically on December 2021. After this timespan, the average OSMO balance of HyperActive users has increased again but the average OSMO balance of Active users did not recover like HyperActive users and currently they have not much high average OSMO balance.

Totally, the average $OSMO balance of HyperActive users is more than average $OSMO balance of active users.

Conclusion

Based on the above analysis:

• There are 9 HyperActive and more than 101kActive users on Osmosis (Definition of Active and HyperActive is available in the Methodology section).

• Swap activity by both HyperActive and Active Osmosis users is way more than Liquidity Providing Actions.

• The number of outgoing transfers from Osmosis by Active users is slightly more than Incoming transfers to Osmosis.

• But, the number of Incoming transfers to Osmosis by HyperActive users is more than Outgoing transfers from Osmosis.

• The average $OSMO balance of HyperActive users is more than Active Osmosis users in all days over time. Their total $OSMO balance was increasing till January 2023 but after the start of the new year, we have seen a massive decline in their balance.
