User Segmentation Analysis

    Introduction

Osmosis is a DEX protocol, which means it uses smart contracts to determine the price of digital assets, to produce liquidity via a peer-to-peer (P2P) methodology, and to exact trades between users. This approach to an exchange platform is known as an AMM — a DEX protocol that prices crypto assets in liquidity pools.

    What is User Segmentation?

User segmentation is the process of separating users into distinct groups, or segments, based on shared characteristics.

A company might segment users based on language preferences, product version, geographical region, or user persona.

    Questions

Let's analyze a typical user journey through Osmosis. Analyze the following:

    • The most common ways of entering Osmosis (Axelar (Satellite) or elsewhere)
    • The most common asset transferred into Osmosis for first transfer

    Stay or leave:

    • What do wallets do when they first come to Osmosis?
    • Join to swap and then transfer that asset out?
    • Join to stake OSMO?
    • Join to swap and then LP?
    • Which assets are most commonly swapped for and transferred out?
    • Which assets are most commonly swapped for and then LP'd?

Calculate the above from both a volume and # of user standpoint.

    Method

In this dashboard, I used the following tables on Osmosis schema provided by Flipside Crypto:

    osmosis.core.fact_transfers

    osmosis.core.fact_transactions

    osmosis.core.dim_prices

    osmosis.core.fact_governance_votes

    osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions

    osmosis.core.dim_tokens

These tables gonna show us the most common ways of entering Osmosis based on number of wallets (users) and their volume alongside with their first action of activity.

    Highlights

First action of new users who have joined to Osmosis is swap. About 19.5M new users make swap on their first attempt while 14.5M users do transfer assets and around 6M new users go for Governance.

Based on above pie graph, Swap action owns 40% of activity between top 5 actions followed by 29% of Transfer.

According to Normalized graph on above percentage share of Transfer is increasing over time while Swap action shows opposite behaviour and decreasing over the past months.

Total trend of actions is downward as well which indicates less new users joins Osmosis and create less actions either.

Cosmos is the ==most popular way== of entering into Osmosis based on wallets number.

According to weekly graph of entering into Osmosis, On early days of this protocol most of people came to Osmosis through Cosmos. Further when other chains added to Cosmos network find their ways into Osmosis as well. For example 137K wallets came into Osmosis through Evmos while Juno's share is 70K wallets and 11% of total share.

Another graph on above shows the most common assets trasferred into Osmosis for first transfer based on wallets number and volume . According to results, Atom has the vast majority on both number of wallets and volume. Second most favorite asset based on wallets number is is Evmos. This token owns 25% of total share among top 10 assets but in the matter of volume came into Osmosis Luna token is the most popular token between users.

    Highlights

Here in this section you can see the most common assets swapped for and transferred out on Osmosis alongside with assets LPed on Osmosis based on transactions number.

According to results, Juno and Atom is the most popular tokens among other assets.

Around 20.7K transactions made on Juno and create a 26 percentage share for this asset while Atom received almost 19K transactions and 24.4% share.

On the other hand OSMO is the top asset users swapped for and add to liquidity pools over time.

About 80% of transactions belongs to this asset and 10% goes to Atom.

USTC and Juno are following these two tokens.

Since May 2022 total transactions on this two actions started to fall off and lose volume which is still continuous.
