Intro
I’m going to analyse performance of blocks on Polygon network and answer the following questions:
What is the average time between blocks on Polygon?
What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks?
How many transactions are done in a block on average?
How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?
What is blockchain performance?
Performance of blockchain networks is generally measured as the average time it takes for a transaction to be validated and stored in each peer node in a way that it cannot be reversed or revoked. [Source]
Here on above tables we can see the minimum, maximum and average time between blocks on Polygon.
As you can see minimum time between blocks on polygon is 2 second , maximum time is 148 and average time between blocks is 2.25 second.
On the left side there is a graph showing daily transactions in a block on Polygon blockchain.
As it can be seen maximum number of transactions has a downward trend and getting down slowly.
On the other hand average number of transactions has some up and down over the past 45 days.
First average number started to grow then it was sideway for days after that trend line lost volume and kept decrease for days until July 10th.
From this day, average number of transactions started to grow again from 53.8 and reached to 78.16 tx over the last day.
Comparing number of transactions within in a block on different chains.
These 3 bar chart around, compare the minimum, maximum and average number of transactions in block on different chains.
According to first bar chart, average number of transactions on Solana is way more than other chains.
Average number of transactions on Solana is 1,744 which is so much more compare to second top chain that is Ethereum and has 142 transactions. On this competition Polygon has average number of 74.85.
By looking at the maximum number of transactions within in a block on our chains we could see that Solana has the highest number again with 7,597 transactions followed by Ethereum , Polygon and Binance smart chain.
Maximum number of transactions on Polygon beats Binance chain and it’s very close to Ethereum.
Optimism and Arbitrum have the lowest number compared to other chains in both minimum and maximum number of transactions within a block.
Conclusion
In this dashboard, we looked at the performance of blocks on Polygon and based on that:
Minimum time recorded between blocks is 2 second and maximum time is 25 seconds.
Average time between blocks on Polygon is 2.25 seconds.
Also we saw average number of transactions that are done on Polygon is 74.78 transactions. When we compared polygon to other chains, we saw that Solana has the highest number of transactions compared to Polygon or Ethereum
Now let’s take a look and see how many transactions are done in a block on Polygon.
Maximum transactions that is done in a block is 1,332 and average number is 74.84 transactions while minimum transactions is zero.
