Flow-15.NBA Playoff Usage

    Analyze the start of the NBA playoffs (mid-April) and determine whether it had an impact on Flow transaction volume. What about NBA Top Shots?

    Methodology

    • We define Flow Transaction Volume as the number of NFT Sales on Flow in regards to the NBA Top Shots.
    • Find all the NFT sales from flow.core.fact_nft_sales and filter on marketplace ilike 'A.c1e4f4f4c4257510.%', this is the Top Shot Marketplace.
    • We compare it against all the non-topshot transaction from flow.core.fact_nft_sales sales.
    • We analyze data starting 15 Apr, 2022

    Analyze the start of the NBA playoffs (mid-April) and determine whether it had an impact on Flow transaction volume. What about NBA Top Shots?

    • Looking at the Transaction Frequency, we can clearly see there was as spike in the number of NFTs sales overall especially in April.
    • The highest was ~108K NFT sales on April 22, 2022.
    • In terms of NFT Sale Volume, we saw about 5.6M in sale volume on Apr 22, 2022.
    • Both the Transaction Volume and Sale Volume have been decreasing ever since then, as of today it is a mere 4K, down from ~30K NFT sales.

    What about NBA Top Shots?

    • Clearly there seems to be a direct co-relation between NBA Top shots and the Flow transaction volume and the NBA Season.
    • NBA Top Shots accounts for the majority of the transactions vs non-top shot transactions around the NBA season, even accounting for as high as 95% of the transactions.

    Conclusion

    • Clearly we see a direct co-relation with the NBA Season and the flow transaction volume as well as the NBA Top shot transactions and the NBA Season.
