Liquidity Pools - Wallet Composition

What type of wallets provide liquidity on Osmosis? Is liquidity concentrated and owned by a small number of whales? Or, are there a diverse range of participants in the LP ecosystem? Do LP composition change based on TVL of the pools themselves? BONUS: Post your dashboard on Twitter and tag @flipsidecrypto and any relevant accounts!

    Methodology

    • To find all the LPers we look at the osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_action table for currency = 'uosmo' and action = 'pool_joined'
    • Once we have the list of LPers, we then look at the OSMO balances from osmosis.core.fact_daily_balances
    • TVL is calculated using the amount of OSMO deposited into each Pool over time while joining.
    • Whale is defined as a Wallet > 100K OSMO balance.

What type of wallets provide liquidity on Osmosis?

    • Most of the liquidity comes from Wallets with 100-1000 Liquid OSMO balance with a total of 91K wallets.
    • Most of the liquidity comes from Wallets with 1K-1K staked OSMO balance with a total of 64K wallets.

Is liquidity concentrated and owned by a small number of whales? Or, are there a diverse range of participants in the LP ecosystem?

    • There is indeed a diverse range of participation oriented towards non-whale wallets.
    • Very few whales actually provided liquidity into the LP pools.

Do LP composition change based on TVL of the pools themselves?

    • The LP composition does NOT seems to change by the TVL of the pools themselves.
    • The pattern seems to remain the same with whales contributing the high amount of TVL.
    • The same pattern can be seem repeated across various pools time and again.

    Conclusion

    • The LP composition is quite diverse, but the majority of the liquidity comes from the whales.
    • This pattern can be seen across various pools in the OSMO ecosystem.
