Methodology

• The SQL Query is based off a query by another user - SQL Credit and Dashboard, the query is then modified for desired result.
• Since the transfers table is not complete and NEAR tables are not backfilled complete the balances are not accurate and the limitations are same as the ones specified in this Dashboard
• Overall the methodology:
  • Looks at the transfers tables for transfers to NEAR wallets
  • Looks at swaps table to find swaps to and from NEAR
  • Looks at the transactions and action_events table to find specific transactions related to staking, unstaking and multicall transfers.
• We analyze the Overall Near Balances and the Top 10 Holders
  • For Overall Balances we look at the distribution plus the table view of someone need specific details.
  • For Top 10 NEAR Holders, we look at the current balance and cumulative balance over time.

Near Balance Distribution

• Most of the NEAR wallets hold between 0-0.1 $NEAR, which is a total of 13M users, this is an overwhelming majority.
• The second highest holders are 0.1-0.5 $NEAR tokens with 147K users
• The third highest holders are 1-5 $NEAR tokens with 68K users.
• There are only 223 holders with > 100K $NEAR tokens.

• Also given below is the table for 1000 users, which can be used to find balance for specific address.

Top 10 $NEAR Holder Metrics

Balances

• binancecold3.near is the wallet with the highest $NEAR token balance with 50M. the balance has grown 3X since 15M in Feb 2022.
• b9f97c1bf0952eaf936b53108e35341fd996a6031ebd453189b18bfebe141c0f is the wallet with the second highest wallet with 28M balance, surprisingly they only show up in July 2022 and did not have any other transactions before.
• nearcoldtree.near is the wallet with the third highest balance, the balance has grown 2X since 5M in Jan 2022.

Transactions

• The balance of the top 10 wallets doesn’t reflect the activity on the NEAR network.
• 5c33c6218d47e00ef229f60da78d0897e1ee9665312550b8afd5f9c7bc6957d2 is the wallet with the highest number of transactions, however it only has a balance of only 5.6M $NEAR.
• c8d3ad8f8c5421ccf93682b77cf6751b07e06ce129156933418c57ca7e8c8df6 is the wallet with the second highest number of transactions, however it only has a balance of only 34K $NEAR.
• Most of the transactions for these wallets have happened since May 2022.

Conclusion

• Distribution of $NEAR tokens is quite surprising, with majority of the wallets having only 0-0.1 $NEAR tokens.
• This is most likely due to inactive wallets and missing data, since it doesn’t make sense for about 95% of wallets to have less than 0.1 $NEAR tokens.
