Quix vs Magic Eden vs OpenSea
-- Create a dashboard highlighting at least 3 metrics comparing marketplace performance and adoption -- between Quix (formerly Quixotic) on Optimism, Magic Eden on Solana, and OpenSea on Ethereum, since July of this year. -- What has been the rate of change of these metrics since the start of the new year and are there any signs of growth of a certain marketplace -- or ecosystem of NFTs? -- Highlight the 5 most popular NFT collections for each marketplace over that timeframe in terms of sales volume. -- Is the turnover rate (number of transactions) for collections on Quix noticeably higher than on OpenSea and Magic Eden? -- Provide some insights on these findings.
Methodology
- We look at all the sales for OpenSea on Ethereum Magic Eden V2 on Solana and Quix on Optimism from
ethereum.core.ez_nft_sales
,solana.fact_nft_sales
andoptimism.core.ez_nft_sales
tables. - We calculate the respective token prices from the swaps in case of Solana and the price tables for Ethereum and Optimism.
- Once we have all the sales we look at the following metrics
- Number of Sales
- Total amount of Sale
- Average amount Sale
- Number of Buyers
- Number of Sellers
- We look at the both the weekly and the cumulative numbers for each of these metrics.
- We look at these metrics starting Jul 2022 and Starting from the beginning of year.
- We then look at these metrics only for the Top 5 NFTs per platform by Sale Volume.
We are only considering OpenSea on Ethereum and not Polygon to compare apples to apples across one Blockchain.
Since Starting of 2022
Number of Sales
- Opensea was the dominant force in the beginning of the year and for a while OpenSea and Magic Eden were neck to neck in July , however after Aug 2022 Magic Eden is visibly dominant, Quix on the other hand has been lagging.
- Highest for OpenSea was 529K during the week of Jan 24, 2022.
- Highest for MagicEden was 1M during the week of Sep 5, 2022.
- Highest for Quix was 8.8K during the week of Sep 19, 2022.
- Till date since the beginning of Year we have seen 14.8M for OpenSea, 12.6M for Magic Eden and 106K for Quix
Sale Volume - $USD
- OpenSea has always dominated MagicEden and Quix in terms of Sale volume, but May was special when MagicEden went crazy.
- Highest for OpenSea was 1.2B during the week of Jan 24, 2022.
- Highest for MagicEden was 3.9B during the week of May 16, 2022.
- Highest for Quix was 525K during the week of Sep 19, 2022.
- Till date since the beginning of year we have seen 18.82B for OpenSea, 14.4B for Magic Eden and 3.2M for Quix
Conclusion
- Opensea is still dominant in terms of all metrics except the number of Sales.
- The Sale volume on Opensea is just immense and will take a while for MagicEden to match that.
- Quix on the other hand is still in the early stages and has a long long way to go, it did see some strong numbers in the last few weeks.
- Overall Opensea on Ethereum still rocks.
