User Behavior (redux)

Methodology

We first look at the transaction metrics from both optimism vs ETH Mainnet, using tables optimism.core.fact_transactions and ethereum.core.fact_transactions
Then we look at at various metrics like daily active users, and average and Total Fees.
We also look at Number of swappers and total swap volume and average volume swapped on Sushiswap.
The chart can be changed to daily, weekly or monthly from the params above.
Also we are only looking at the daily metrics for the past 90 days, the param can be increased for a longer range.

Optimism vs ETH Mainnet - Swap

Number of Swaps

ETH Mainnet has a lot more daily swaps than Optimism about 80-100X the number of swaps.
Optimism has the highest number of swap transactions with 194 on Sep 12, 2022.
ETH has the highest number of swap transactions with 14.5K on Sep 17, 2022.

Number of Swappers

ETH Mainnet has a lot more daily active swappers than Optimism about 70-100X the number of swappers.
Optimism has the highest number of users with 191 on Aug 18, 2022.
ETH has the highest number of swappers with 4.6K on Jul 26, 2022.

Swap Volume($USD) - Total and Average

ETH Mainnet has a lot lot more Swap Volume than Optimism about 1-3X the swap volume.
Optimism has the highest amount of swap volume with 30K $USD on Jul 29, 2022.
ETH has the highest amount of swap volume with 94.2M $USD on Jul 28, 2022.
The Average Swap volume for Optimism is a lot less that Ethereum Mainnet.

Conclusion

The overall conclusion is that Optimism is not there yet in terms of competing with ETH mainnet.
However it is getting there in terms of number of transactions and swap volume of Sushiswap.
But it will still take a while before Optimism is seriously competing with ETH Mainnet.

Number of Transactions

ETH Mainnet has a lot more daily transactions than Optimism about 7X the number of transactions.
Optimism has the highest number of transactions with 348K on Sep 21, 2022.
ETH has the highest number of transactions with 1.67M on Jul 26, 2022.
Recent days has seen the share of Optimism transactions increasing, it was as much as 25% on Sep 21, 2022.

Number of Active Users

ETH Mainnet has a lot more daily active users than Optimism about 8X the number of active users.
Optimism has the highest number of users with 63K on Jul 27, 2022.
ETH has the highest number of users with 961K on Jul 26, 2022.

Gas Used($USD)

ETH Mainnet has a lot lot more Gas used than Optimism about 7-10X the number of active users.
Optimism has the highest number of gas with 1.3K $USD on Oct 21, 2022.
