DOT DOT, Who's There?
Like most assets in the last two years, DOT saw a meteoric rise in 2021 followed by a crater in 2022. However, DOT there still remains a little bit of DOT liquidity and volume flowing through Osmosis. Is the trading activity of DOT on Osmosis real user activity, or is this just arbitrageurs? How many users are active in Pool 773 every day, week, month?
Introduction
What is Polkadot (DOT)?
Definition
Polkadot is a protocol that connects blockchains — allowing value and data to be sent across previously incompatible networks (Bitcoin and Ethereum, for example). It’s also designed to be fast and scalable. The DOT token is used for staking and governance; it can be bought or sold on Coinbase and other exchanges.
The Polkadot protocol is designed to allow unrelated blockchains to securely talk to each other, so that value or data can flow between, say, the Ethereum and Bitcoin blockchains without any intermediary. It’s also designed to be speedy and scalable, via the use of many parallel blockchains (or “parachains”) that take much of the processing demand off of the main blockchain.
The Polkadot token (DOT) serves two main functions within the Polkadot network: it’s a governance token, which allows holders to have a say in the future of the protocol, and it’s used for staking, which is the way the Polkadot network verifies transactions and issues new DOT. DOT can be bought and sold on exchanges like Coinbase as part of your investment strategy.
What are liquidity pools?
First of all, cryptocurrency and financial markets both depend on liquidity. It takes substantial time to convert an asset into cash if there is not enough liquidity on the market. High liquidity means that the process of turning assets into cash while preventing sudden price changes is quick and effective.
Methodology
In this dashboard, we examine one of the OSMO/DOT pools, pool 773. For this purpose, we use the table osmosis.core.fact_swaps
to get the price converter. We also use the table osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions
to check transactions and pool volumes. Finally, we will get the total number and volume liquidity provides, liquidity providers when the join or exit from pool, and also plot and analyze the daily/weekly/monthly charts.
Observation I
Number of liquidity provides:
> pool_joined = 10227 > > pool_exited = 783
Number of liquidity providers:
> pool_joined = 1578 > > pool_exited = 638
Total volume of liquidity provides in USD:
> pool_joined = 1,591,929 > > pool_exited = 514,304
Average volume of liquidity provides in USD:
> pool_joined = 111.7 > > pool_exited = 328.6
Median of the volume of liquidity provides in USD:
> pool_joined = 4.42 > > pool_exited = 45.17
Maximum of the volume of liquidity provides in USD:
> pool_joined = 14201.17 > > pool_exited = 17202.23
Observation II
On July 30, 2022, the number of liquidity provides and liquidity providers has a very big jump and reaches the number ==302== and ==202== respectively, and after that the date is a downward trend and number of liquidity provides fluctuates between ==20== and ==30==, and liquidity providers fluctuates between ==20== and ==25== at the end of December.
The volume will reach its maximum value of $==200.69== on August 16, 2022. Also, pool_exited volume has been increasing since late November.
Observation IV
The highest number of liquidity provides occurs in the month of August with the number of ==4265==. Also, the highest liquidity provides for the pool_exited occurs in the month of August, which is equal to ==216==.
The highest number of liquidity providers occurs in the month of August with the number of ==952==. Also, the highest liquidity provides for the pool_exited occurs in the month of August, which is equal to ==188==.
And the highest volume of liquidity providers occurs in the month of August with the volume of ==852.1466K== . Also, the highest liquidity provides for the pool_exited occurs in the month of December, which is equal to ==81.03594K==.
Observation III
Number of liquidity provides and liquidity providers are the highest amounts in first week of August 2022 and it reaches to 1601 and 618 and decreasing after that.
The maximum amount of withdrawn volume will occur in the fourth week of November 2022.
