The Unstakeeeeers
How frequently do users on Osmosis unstake their Osmosis? What do they do with the OSMO once unstaked?
Staking is one the main actions that Osmosis users do it in the platform, Users can earn yield and also some potential airdrops (which is very common on cosmos ecosystem) with staking $osmo, but what they will do after unstacking $osmo? let’s see:
At first let’s see how many users are unstaking $osmo and also how much $osmo has been unstaked in recent 180 days:
As we see 36.1 k of the osmosis wallets has been done unstaking transaction at least one time and 42.1m $osmo has been unstaked in this transactions, which means each wallet has been ubstaked 1167 tokens on average.
After getting total amounts, lets see the daily counts of unstaking wallets and unstaked tokens:
Here we see the amounts of wallets unstaking $osmo in 12th May is more than any day, the reason can be the huge Crypto market crash on that date and also the Terra collapse which destroyed many crypto users!
On the second chart we see the record amount of usntaking $osmo in one single day, is 3th May, but what happend after this? The $osmo chart tells us! If you loo4k at 4th May, you see a dumping start which moved $osmo price from $3.97 to $1.06! So maybe a whale dumping wave was planned after this unstakings.
What do unstakers do after unstaking $osmo?
For answering this question we take a look to the transaction types the unstakers made after unstaking:
As we see swapping is the 1st choice after usnsatking, after that providing liquidity on osmosis.zone’s pools is the 2nd favored action , done by the ubstakers and the 3rd action is doing an IBC transfer and moving assets from osmosis to the other cosmos based chains.
This diagram shows the actions popularityby the percentage and amounts we see more than 52.6k swaps has been made by unstakers which means %44.6 of the transactions. two more actions in the questions are LPing and re-delegating (staking again in other validator), we see LPing has the %16.4 share but only %0.38 of the users are trying to re-delegate! So maybe they unstake in order to use the tokens in other ways, not for just changing the validator!
Do unstakers re-delegate to certain validators more frequently than others? Why might this be so?
Let’s see what validator they are choosing to stake again:
We asee Frens validator by 40 redelegations is most wanted one, I personally searched about this but not find any specific reasons for users choice story!
As swapping was the most done action by the unstakers, let’s see what tokens are they using more for swaps?
As we see the unstakers swap $osmo to other tokens more than any assets by far! and also, they purchase $atom more than any tokens, so Maybe
$osmo to $atom swap is the most favorate swap for the unstakers.
Conclsions
- More than 36k wallets has been delegated almost 42m $osmo tokens in recent 180 days.
- The Terra collapse and crypto market crash effected to osmosis users a lot, as the counts of wallets unstaking $osmo in 12th May was more than any day
- 3th May was a bad day for Osmosis! the high amounts of unstaking happened, This action leaded to big dump on $osmo price from $3.97 to $1.06 at last.
- Unstakers do token swaps mostly and re-delegating is not an option on their mind.
- $osmo is the most sold and $atom is the most purchased tokens by the unstakers
