Flow vs L1s

Flow, Solana, Ethereum & Algorand. A comparative dashboard.

    Introduction

    Methodology

    Analysis

Create a dashboard comparing the following metrics between Flow, Solana, Ethereum, and Algorand:

    • Number of transactions.

    • Transaction success rates.

    • Number of unique wallets to make a transaction.

    • Number of wallets that used the chain everyday since May 9th.

    • Transaction fees.

    • How does Flow compare to these other chains and how do you think it will trend over time?

Visualize these metrics over time since May 9th.

Flow is a new layer 1 blockchain focus on nfts and gaming (cool shit)

the other ones do everything (cool and boring shit)

except solana, solana do everything but fast, and centralized.

    • Im gonna take querys that i already made and refurbished them with an extra analysis, im fanially have come to plagiarize myself, peak progress.

    • Flow is considerably smaller in transactions made since May 9th.

    • Tho, some days, Flow in its activity does reach levels similar to Ethereum.

    • Activity levels follow similar trends across blockchains.

    • Note that fall is just Solana falling in activity, not all blockchains. (The other are clearer once taken out)

    • Flow with 219k unique wallets, has 100k less than Algorand.

    • Solana is by far the biggest chain by unique wallets.

    • Flow is obviously the smaller chain, with its proportion hard to see in comparison.
    • When observed individually, FLOW does have spikes during weekends.
    • But in the weekend of May, 20. We can see a massive spike in unique users, from 612 to 24k, to 45k.

    Fees

    • At this point, of the four, FLOW is only rivaled by Solana, which did have lower fees in average than Flow.
    Storage capacity; Account with FLOW
    • 100 kB per 0.001 reserved FLOW.
    • 1 MB per 0.01 reserved FLOW.
    • 10 MB per 0.1 reserved FLOW.
    • 100 MB per 1 reserved FLOW.
Any account can have this upgrades by just storing the required FLOW amounts. I thought it was interesting to know.

So, hows the flow with FLOW ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Interesting note about fees in FLOW
    • Fees in flow work in a interesting way.
    • Account creation to keep 100kb of information stored in perpetuity.
    • If a transaction leaves an account with more data that it can hold, the transaction fails. The same happens when a transaction leaves the account with less than the minimun permitted, which is 0.001 FLOW.
    • Flow is built specifically to cater to the games and applications industry.
    • With its low fees and FLOW token at the hearth of every transaction, could result in a non friction experience in the crypto ecosystem.
    • But having Solana as a competitor in smaller fees, does make expansion harder.
    • With the userbase growth that FLOW has, is not hard to see how it could become a major competitor to less specialized chains.
    • Tho, being a game focused chain, only the quality of games being developed in will decide if this gaming blockchain make its place on the ecosystem.
    • At least, its use of the core Token (FLOW) for fees make its use relatively simple. Unlike other gaming blockchains like WAX or Phantasma, that add another layer of complexity that the average gamer won't appreciate.

    • Flow as expected has accrued much smaller fees over time, considering its lower activity levels, but, as noted in the first chart, FLOW does reach high activity levels some days, and FLOW fees are considerably cheaper, except than those from Solana.
