Near Developer Activity

    Developer Activity

    Github Development

Recently the 2022 Electric Capital Developer Report came out, and its finding are quite optimistic. At the ending of 2022, there were 23k monthly active developers, with an all-time high of 61k developers contributing to web3 for the first time.

And Near is right there as one of the major growing ecosystems.

Thanks to Flipside, is possible to see this growing activity more closely.

One caveat though, is that Flipside’s approach doesn’t capture activity by commits or lines added. Instead prioritizes collaborative development, one in which Issues or PR are opened, discussed and review in conjunction with multiple developers.

    Method

    • Active developers during 2022 were accounted for developers that appear at least once during the year.

    • Developers by type were accounted as:

      • 1 Issue/PR = One-Time Dev (during a month)
      • 2-9 Issues/PRs = Part-Time Dev
      • More than 9 Isseus/PRs = Full-Time Dev
    • Developers retention rate was searched using a cohort method calculating the percentage of Developers onboarded on a week that lasted until x months ahead (Amount of months by year)

      \

    • All the data was provided by Flipside’s database and their new Near.GitHub_Activity table.

      • Full-Time Developers did not see that decline.
    • Developers retention rate is high. Reaching up to 40% for those developers that started on the second month of development until the end of 2022. Though, of those who started on 2021 between a 20% to 30% did remain active on 2022.

      • The monthly retention rate finished at almost 50%.

      \
