NEAR Gas Guzzlers

    How near is Near?

Carbon-Neutral, high performant, secure and infinitely scalable. Is what Near, this proof of stake blockchain claims to be. But at what cost for its users?

    Task

    1. What contracts are users spending the most gas on to use?
    2. How has this changed over the past week?
    3. Past month?

    Method

To find relevant data, Flipside’s the following table was used.

    • To find gas used and contracts: near.core.fact_transactions

Not the most used ones thats for sure.

For example, the 26 of July, the most expensive contracts to use were Aurora with a max amount of gas used in a transaction of 305 gas units.

And in this case, its coming precisely of one of the most used contracts in Near, coming from Aurora.

But not all expensive contracts have that high amount of uses. For example, most of the rest of highly expensive contracts have uses below the fifty uses. Which means that people either interacted with these contracts were the network was going through a high demand period or they are rightfully expensive.

Either way, people were willing to use high gas amounts to use this contracts, with the lowest being Axser with only 110 gas used maximum per transaction.

    And for the last week

Aurora was also the one with the highest use, and the highest gas per transaction, with 305 units again.

Followed now by NearTribes, with only 302 uses but willing to pay up to 292 units per transaction.

Not necessarily those that are the most used are those where people are more inclined to pay high fees.

    What about last month?

The trend is mostly the same actually, with Aurora not only being one of the most used ones, also with the highest gas used recorded. Followed really closely by FreeHorsesSpartans, NftReactor and NmkMint with really high gas used registered.

Now, from this group, in the last month, only Aurora remains today as a highly costly contract, this could be due to coincidence in congestion times in where this contracts were interacted with.

So, we can also look for the highest average gas used in contracts and finally get a complete picture

Or we would if the highest average gas used were not completely different from what we would expect.

On the right there is a list with the consistently highest gas use.

And on the first place as the most expensive contract would be the BSC bridge with Near.

    Followed by NftNearapp and Pangolindex-Token.
