Who's Got The Flow?

    And what is it?

Flow is a decentralized blockchain, intended as the next generation ecosystem for builders and developers due to its ingrained focus on developing a welcoming environment to Digital assets, Applications and Games.

Its native currency, and its fee taxing currency, its Flow, thus explaining the interest behind knowing these metrics.

    Method (Important consideration below)

Every time Flow is deposited or withdrawn from an account, a particular event is called. This event allow us to track deposits and withdrawns for specific receivers. Then, joining both these occurrences by the same user, and then subtracting those withdraws from the total deposits, allow us to get an actual current balances. For the most part. This method also present some problems explained down below.

To calculate these metrics, Flipside’s data repository was used in hand with Flowscan to verify the integrity of the metrics.

    • The table flow.core.fact_events was used to find the deposits and withdraws events.
    • The table flow.core.dim_contract_labels was used to correlate addresses with known projects and contracts.

    Addresses left out

There is a problem with the method explained before, so this analysis should be considered as an approximation.

There is a difficulty when trying to account for all the tokens actually deposited into some accounts. For example, the account “0x47fd53250cc3982f”, with this method it gives -1.259 billions when it currently holds 55 millions.

This is the most egregious case though

A number of other addresses (2052) also give balances in the negative numbers but when check against flowscan, they retrieve barely any flow holding.

So, to avoid any problematic data, all those addresses that returned negative balances will be left out.

The same for some addresses that after being correlated with their known contracts, give values way higher than currently are. These addresses are in their respective SQL methods.

    For starters

At this moment 5.77 Million users have interacted with Flow, I said interacted because a small number of these users don’t have any flow left on their accounts, except for the flow needed to maintain the digital record on its account.

In average a Flow user should have around 44 Flows in their account, worth around 48 USD.

More realistically a flow user could have 0.001 Flow on their account. Or around 0.0011 USD worth.

    Distribution

    Identifying

An honest attempt of indentifying these address left us with:

    • 1409 different contracts associated with these wallets.

    • The bigger of them being Flovatar Marketplace, with 30k Flow held.

    • The second with 17k in Metaverse and Ozone Token.

    • As seen, not one of these corresponds with the big whales holding all the Flow.

    When it comes to distribution…

    Is not that decentralized.

Five wallets holds more than 50% of the Flow remaining after withdraws are deducted from their deposits.

The top wallet having 91 Millions in Flow tokens.

Thanks to the distribution grouping we can see that only 24 wallets have more than 1 Million in Flow tokens, but even then, the top 5 is still far above the entire top group.

If we were to take one random user, almost always we would take a user with less than 10 flows in their account, and less than 10 USD worth.

Only 4482 wallets hold more than 10 Flow and less than 100.

Only 2108 wallets hold more than 100 Flow and less than 1k

Only 2187 wallets hold more than 100 USD worth in Flow tokens. (and less than 1000)

272 Wallets holds between 10k and 100k USD worth.

    Overview

    db_img
    • Most of the bigger players are either not indexed in Flipside’s labels table, or come from individuals and not from contracts.

      \

    • This method did leave out one relevant address holding 55 Millions in Flow token. The address, addressed* in the beginning correspond to one of the TOP addresses in charge of subsidizing the fees in transactions, according to its activity in Flowscan.

      \

    • Most of the Flow power is concentrated in only 10 big players.
