Comparison of voting on Ethereum and Solana

    Overview of analysis:

Platforms that claim to be managed by community members often involve their users in governance decisions by holding polls. In order to do this, they must create infrastructure to run governance polls or use other methods that are not decentralized.

In this analysis, the voting system on Ethereum and Solana networks have been compared.

The Ethereum voting has been determined by Snapshot. The time period of this investigation is from start of 2022.

This dashboard has been contained the following parts:

    • General stats of voting
    • Top proposals and programs attracted most voters
    • Voters behavior on networks

    Methodology:

    • Used table for Ethereum:

from ethereum.core.ez_snapshot where NETWORK= 'Ethereum Mainnet'

    • Used table for Solana:

      from solana.core.fact_proposal_votes where SUCCEEDED='TRUE'

    • Voters retention by voter distribution by count of votes when vote_count<5 then '1. under 3 votes' when vote_count>=5 and vote_count<15 then '2. 3-10 votes' when vote_count>=10 and vote_count<50 then '3. 10-50 votes' when vote_count>=50 then '4. Over 50 votes'

    • Participation of voters on proposals

      when no_proposals<3 then 'a. under 3 proposals' when no_proposals>=3 and no_proposals<10 then 'b. 3-10 proposals' when no_proposals>=10 and no_proposals<20 then 'c. 10-20 proposals' when no_proposals>=20 then 'd. Over 20 proposals'

    Ethereum:

The voting performance on Ethereum is based on the Snapshot. Snapshot is a decentralized voting system that allows users to create proposals and vote off-chain. This allows holders to vote without paying gas.

Usually, the tokens in users' wallets are used to calculate their voting power; Then, using the POAP plugin, voters are given a POAP badge as proof of voting (Proof-of-Vote).

    Solana:

Two various programs have been used on Solana to handle the voting system:

    Part 1: General comparison

    Findings:

    • The Ethereum network has been dominated the voting performance compared to the Solana by count of vote, voters and proposals.
    • The Ethereum network has more average vote per voter rather than Ethereum.
    • The average vote per proposal for Ethereum is higher than Solana by far.

    Findings:

    • The daily stats validated the findings of general part.
    • The highest count of captured vote for Ethereum happened on ==August 22== and the highest vote count for Solana occurred on ==May 3==.
    • The voters on Solana were very active on ==March 23== and they average vote per voter was high on that date.

Part 2: Popular proposals on networks

    Findings:

    • The highest participated on Ethereum captured near 56k unique voters and its title is ==TBCC DAO and TBCC TOKEN.
    • The most popular proposal on Solana network captured over 900 unique voters and its the realm related to ==The Imperium of Rain.
    • The first term you come across in Snapshot is ==space==. The most popular space on Ethereum mainnet is ==tbcc.eth== as shown in the graph.
    • The Imperium of Rain and Grape== are the most popular DAOs on Solana network based on count of voters.

Part 3: Voters behavior on networks

    Findings:

The voters of voting systems on network have various behavior based on the participation on proposals and the retention of participation.

The most ==important and comparable== part of this analysis is this section which belong to the voters behavior on both networks.

    • On Ethereum network over 80% of voters have been voted below 3 times and this metric for Solana network is 78.6% of voters.
    • The pattern of voters based on the participation count are very close together as can be seen from the first two pie charts.
    • Over ==2/3 of voters on Solana== network have been voted on less than 3 proposals and ==on Ethereum about 63%== of voters voted on below 3 proposals.
    • A ==very tiny (less than 3%)== part of unique voters have been voted over 20 proposals on Ethereum mainnet but the participation of voters on Solana for more than 20 proposals is about ==4.54%== of voters.
