Squid Gas: Market Comparison
Compare the gas costs for swaps using Squid to other cross-chain liquidity routers (Staragate, Celer, THORChain, LiFi, Bungee, Anyswap).
This dashboard is used to find out the gas costs of the Squid Bridge on various blockchains. Also, the gas costs of the Squid router with Thorchan and HOP protocol have been compared. This analysis is divided into the following parts:
- The paid fee by Squid router on blockchians
- Comparison of Squid router with Thorchain and HOP protocol via various indicators
- Conclusion and useful links
The Axelar network serves as the infrastructure for inter-chain exchanges. Axelar acts as both a bridge and a platform for cross-chain communication between smart contract protocols. Axelar bridging makes it possible to send tokens across different blockchains, while Axelar's second feature allows decentralized applications to run on different networks.
Squid is the cross-chain swap and liquidity routing protocol on Axelar Network.
Squid utilizes existing DEXs to swap and send any native token between chains. This can be done via our SDK, Front End, or Contracts directly.
Swaps are composable with Axelar's generalized message passing, so Squid can enable one-click transactions between any application and any user, using any asset.
Currently, there are many blockchain projects, each charging different fees as cryptocurrency transaction fees. There is a simple rule regarding the determination of fees for transactions in blockchains, and that is "the higher the efficiency of the network, the lower the cost of transactions." Considering that some networks can only put a limited amount of data in each block, as a result, the work of miners or validators is limited to the number of transactions for which they have enough space.
The data provided by Flipside has been used to handle this analysis.

In this investigation, the transactions of the axelar.core.ez_squid table has been selected. Then by the use of these transactions and based on the Blockchain.fact_transactions, the gas usage of the Squid swaps on various networks has been determined.
-
The Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Binance, and Avalanche chains have been used to find out the related fee for swaps on the Squid platform based on the USD value of the native token of these blockchains.
-
The comparison of the Squid router with other programs has been executed based on various metrics:
Selected routers-> Thorchain and HOP protocol
Metrics-> Total paid fee, average and median paid fee in USD, Average paid fee per user and day, Average paid fee per block and overtime analysis related to the gas cost on various routers.
