User Segmentation Analysis
Introductions
What is Osmosis?
a protocol, which means it uses smart contracts to determine the price of digital assets, to produce liquidity via a peer-to-peer (P2P) methodology, and to exact trades between users. This approach to an exchange platform is known as an AMM a DEX protocol that prices crypto assets in liquidity pools, it was launched in late 2021 and its native token is OSMO.
What is transferring?
A crypto transfer on Gemini is the movement of a crypto to an external wallet or another exchange via blockchain transaction. In order to move any crypto from one place to another, you would need a “destination address” which indicates where you would like to send your crypto.

What is required from this analysis?
Let's analyze a typical user journey through Osmosis. Analyze the following:
- The most common ways of entering Osmosis (Axelar (Satellite) or elsewhere)
- The most common asset transferred into Osmosis for first transfer
Stay or leave:
- What do wallets do when they first come to Osmosis?
- Join to swap and then transfer that asset out?
- Join to stake OSMO?
- Join to swap and then LP?
- Which assets are most commonly swapped for and transferred out?
- Which assets are most commonly swapped for and then LP'd?
- By far with 1.2M transactions done by 265K users, Cosmos is the most popular way, entering Osmosis among users followed by Evmos and Juno with 809K TXs done via 84K users and 646K transactions done by 70K users respectively.
- Seems that Axelar and Axelar satellite bridge with 51K transactions, 13.5K users and 85K transactions, 17.3K users respectively are among the less popular ways to enter Osmosis compared to other networks.
Methodology
The needed data regarding users segmentation on Osmosis was extracted via mainly using the tables axelar.core.fact_msg_attributes
and osmosis.core.fact_transactions
, osmosis.core.fact_swaps
, osmosis.core.fact_liquidity_provider_actions
and osmosis.core.fact_transfers
, all of these tables were provided by Flipsidecrypto database and to make these raw extracted data more comprehensible all types of proper charts and graphs were utilized.
- Atom being the most prominent token on Cosmos with 1.24M transfers done via 309K users was the most popular transferred asset into Osmosis followed by Evmos, 806K transactions by 103K users and Juno with 473K transfers done via 58K users.
- Majority of the user, 348K choose swapping 1.7M times as their first action entering Osmosis followed by transferring out with 606K transactions done via 251K users and LPing with 464 LPs being recorded by 216K users.
- Only around 170K of the users performed staking (264K transactions).
- Atom and Juno both with 9M(18.9K users) and 10.8M(20.7K users) were the biggest assets leaving Osmosis after being swapped volume and users count wise followed by SCRT and HUAHUA tokens.
- While OSMO is the native token on the Osmosis chain it had the 10th (volume wise) and 5th (in term of user count) place as the most transferred token out of the chains this could indicated that OSMO managed to mostly stay on its native platforms and users seems to conduct their OSMO related activities on the platform after being swapped.
- OSMO tokens consists more than 80% of the LPed tokens after being swapped both in terms of volume(35.5M) and user count(49K) in other word, seems that most of the users prefer to swaps to Osmosis native token, OSMO before LPing it could be true vice versa as well.
- Atom and Juno were the second and third LPed tokens, after being swapped.
Conclusion
-
Most of the assets transferring into Osmosis is mainly from Cosmos followed by Evmos and Juno, Axelar and Satellite bridge are yet to become the most common way of entering Osmosis compared to others.
-
Majority of the inflow of assets into the platform were ATOM(around half of the users), Evmos and Juno.
-
As it is the norm on the most of the platform, swapping is also with a relatively large margin the most popular action done by new users on Osmosis, transferring out of the platform LPing and to some degrees governance voting and staking were the other most popular activities done by users as their first action.
-
Tokens Atom and Juno had the largest volume and user count of outage from Osmosis after being swapped (20M transferred out by 40K users).
-
OSMO by far is the most LPed token after being swapped with 35.5M being LPed via 49.3K users it could indicate that most of users swap to OSMO intending to stake it so compared to second most staked tokens after swapped, ATOM(1.6M) OSMO have a larger stake to swap ratio.
