Polygon Block Performance
What is the average time between blocks on Polygon? What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks? How many transactions are done in a block on average? How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?
==Introduction==
Polygon is a Layer 2 chain, which used to scale Ethereum network with more speed and security. polygon let high speed transactions with lower fees.
In this article we want to analyze polygon block performance and compare it to other L1 like solana and flow and other layers two like optimism and arbitrum. Pie charts Below compares polygon average time between blocks with L1 chains (Solana , flow) and L2 networks (Optimism , Arbitrum).
-
In the L1 Chains Polygon has more average time between blocks , not a good performance compare to L1 like solana and flow, but dont forget polygon is a sidechain that helps Ethereum to increase scalability. solana has more performance in this comparison
-
in L2 comparison, Polygon has more average time between blocks compare to Arbitrum and Optimism. Arbitrum has more performance in this comparison.
Numbers are in Seconds
==Average Transactions per block in total and Daily basis==
Before going for other comparison,
lets take a look at average transactions per block on each chain, chart below shows this values in total and over time.
in all charts Solana has more average transactions per block in total and in daily chart. next chain with most average transactions per block is Polygon.
==Maximum and Minimum recorded Time between two Blocks==
Charts below shows maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks on different chains , among other L2 chain polygon has more minimum recorded time between two block this means polygon had weak performance compare to other L2 like Aribitrum and optimism.
Arbitrum and optimism minimum recorded time between two blocks are below 1 second.
Bar charts show maximum time between two blocks. in this comparison polygon has maximum time between two blocks.
==Maximum and minimum Time between L1 blocks and polygon==
Polygon has more minimum time between blocks and less maximum time between blocks
compare to Flow and Solana Blockchains.
as you can see in bar charts Solana had Better performance . and recorded less time between blocks, but had more maximum time between two blocks.
==Conclusion==
In This analysis we compared Polygon block performance to other L1 (Flow, Solana) and L2 (Optimism and Arbitrum), we have seen Polygon had more average Transactions per block after Solana blockchain in total and daily basis in this comparison.
we noticed Polygon Had weak performance in average time between blocks compare to other L1 and L2 Blockchains.
Polygon has more Minimum recorded time between two blocks compare to L2 blockchains . Arbitrum and optimism both had minimum time recorded between two blocks below 1 seconds, While this number for polygon is 2 seconds.
also Polygon recorded more minimum time between two blocks compare to Flow and Solana blockchains. so it can be concluded Polygon had weak performance compare to other blockchains we mentioned in this analysis.
About Maximum time between two blocks, in L2 section Arbitrum had more recorded time. and in L1 section Solana had more recorded time.
