    Introduction

A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) is an emerging form of entity structure that is increasingly used in blockchain and cryptocurrency projects. By employing the main principles of blockchain technology in the DAO concepts, transparency and trustlessness, as well as smart contracts, members equally contribute to the governance and decision-making of the DAO.

Technically, DAOs are supported by smart contract-based platforms that bring about the situation that there is no need for trusted authority and every governance action is transparent.

These platforms aggregates DAOs by providing what they need for voting and/or fundraising. Snapshot is the most popular DAOs aggregator. The other example of these platform is Realms built on Solana.

This dashboard focuses on DAOs and provides insights into DAOs activities on multiple chains.

    Overview

This dashboard first provides a cross-chain comparison’s overview of DAOs activities. Then will go on to focusing on changes in activities over time. The next section will present DAO activities metrics for a specific period of time. The period of time can be set using parameters above. Most active DAOs will be listed in the section DAO activities. Finally, participation rate of DAOs will be analyzed.

DOAs activities per chain over time

We can see from this section how the main DAO activities metrics have changed over time per chain.

    • November 2021 was the most active month for DAOs. Since then activities on Ethereum has been decreasing.
    • Since April we can see that the popularity Solana in terms of DAOs activities has increased.
    • After Ethereum and Solana, Polygon and Binance chain are most popular in terms of number of hosting proposals.

DAO activities in the past days (finite period)

In this section metrics presented is for the period of past days. In addition to number of votes, participants, active and active DAOs, number of votes per proposal and number of participants per DAOs is presented too.

Using parameters above you can set how many days you want to go back for the analysis.

    Most Active DAOs

Below graphs show which DAOs were most active in the past [N] days.

    • In terms of number of unique voters (participants), in the past week, OpCollective.eth was most active on Optimism mainnet.
    • In terms of number of proposals, in the past week, Cakevote.eth was most active on Binance Chain.
    • In terms of number of votes per proposal, in the past week, StgDAO.eth was most active on Ethereum chain.

    Participation Rates

Here we focus on the Snapshot data.

Graph below shows the average participation rate per DAOs. We can see except few outliers all DAOs have the participation rate less than 70%.

The other graph presents how the number of DAOs falls into different average participation rate ranges. As can be seen, the largest group of DAOs' participation rate is between 10 and 20%.

    Takeaways

    • Ethereum hosted largest number of DAOs and Solana is the second chain host largest group of DAOs.

    • After Ethereum, most DAO activities in terms of casting votes (creating proposal) is done on Solana chain.

    • After Ethereum, the most popular chain in terms of DAO participants is Binance chain.

    • Since November 2021 the DAO activities on Ethereum chain has been decreasing. However, new chains emerged in 2022 as places for DAO activities such as Solana, Polygon and Avalanche.

    • The majority of DAOs has average participation rate less than 70%.

    • The average DAO has participation rate between 10 and 20%.

    Data

Flipside’s data have been used for this dashboard. Snapshot and Realms (built on Solana) are selected to examine DAOs activities on multiple chains including Solana.

    DAOs Activities: Cross-chain Comparisons

This section provides overview of DAOs activities on different chains.

    The data shows that:

Ethereum and Solana hosted the most number of DAOs.

Ethereum is dominant chain in terms of number of DAO participants and number of proposals.

DAO participants are defined as wallet addresses who has participated in voting of the DAO at least once.
