ALGO Transaction Payment Size
Q43. Let’s look at the quantities of ALGOs being sent in transactions since January 1st 2022 to see if we see any upwards or downwards trends. Group the transactions(algorand.payment_transactions) by size 0-10ALGOs, 10-100ALGOs,100-1000ALGOS, 1,000-10,000ALGOs and 10,000+ ALGOs. Count the number of transaction in each size and chart them by day from January 1st 2022 to current. Do we see any trends of increasing or decreasing payment sizes? What might this indicate for the Algorand network?
Introduction
An important data information to analyze for the blockchain networks is the payment size of the transactions. Sometimes, people wants to know about some activity metrics like active users, number of transactions, etc. But an important fact is the amount/volume shared on each transaction.
In this dashboard, we will analyze the ALGO transaction payment size since 2022 on Algorand network.
Methodology
The analysis consists of represents several metrics that give information about the Algorand transactions. The study is focused on determine the ALGO payment size.
The first part shows somw global statistics about Algorand transactions. The metrics calculated are:
- Transactions over time in a daily basis
- Number of senders and receivers over time
- ALGO paid over time and average size per transaction
The second part shows the same metrics but splitted by the average size of the transaction. The groups used have been:
- 0-10ALGOs
- 10-100ALGOs,100-1000ALGOS
- 1,000-10,000ALGOs
- 10,000+ ALGOs
The percentage of each metric have been calculated to see the trends of the payment transaction size over time.
Results
As a results, we can see the first chart showing the number of transactions over time. It is a clear downtrend on its number passing from 500k to 200k daily transactions. In fact, if we take a look at the second chart about the number of Algorand senders, this number have decreased as well over time despite two peaks on January passing from 30k daily senders to 15k. The number of receivers are more irregular and any trend can be determined.
The last chart shows the amount of daily ALGO sent in bars and the average size of payment actions over time. This last metrics is represented by the black line. As it can be seen, the amount of daily ALGO sent have decreased over time. However, it seems that there are some days when the volume increase. In the case of the average transaction volume size, it seems like it remained stable during January and Feburary but since March, the size have been increasiing from around 210 ALGO to 800, which is a big growth.
Splitting the transactions by size, we can see how the major number of transactions have a size between 0 and 10 ALGos. However, taking a look at the trends, it seems like the number of transactions that decrease the most have been these type of transactions. If we take a look at the second chart, we can see the perceentage of transactions done by sizes. Here we can see how the dominance of transactions betweeen 0 and 10 ALGOs has decreased from around 90% to 79%. On the other side, transactions with a size between 10 and 100 ALGOs and between 100 and 1000 ALGOs have increased over time. In the first case, from 6% to more than 10% and in the second case from 3% to 6%. The transactions between 1000 and 10000 ALGOs have increased as well from 0.6% to almost 4% and the trasnactions with size above 10k ALGOs increased from 0.11 to 0.4%.
Then in general we can say that even the number of ALGO payment transactions have decreased siince January, the size of the transactions increased.
In the case of senders and receivers, we can see how again transactions of 0 to 10 ALGOs of size dominate the situation. However, it can be seen that the number of all transactions group have decreased over time. If we analyze the downgrade of each of them, it seems like the number of transactions decreased more for small size transactions rather than high size transactions.
Finally, analysing the volume sent by each type of transactions bucket, it can be seen that despite having the lowest number of transactions, the majority of ALGO volume comes from transactions of a size of more than 10k ALGOs, followed by those between 1k and 10k ALGOs. However, despite a giant volume peak in the first week of January, volume seems to have dropped. However, it seems to be pretty stable now.
Looking at the last graph through the percentages for each type of transaction by size, we can see that despite having the highest number of transactions, those sending between 0 and 10 ALGOs represent less than 0.5% of the volume of ALGOs paid, and this does not seem to be changing at least for the time being. What we can see is that during this time, the percentage of transaction volume between 100 and 10k ALGOs has risen considerably, with those between 100 and 1k ALGOs going from less than 3% to more than 7%, and those between 1k and 10k ALGOs going from 11% to approximately 22%. In this way, the percentage of transaction volume with a size above 10k ALGOs has fallen from over 80% to around 70%. However, we can see peaks during some days that make these percentages vary. In fact, this increase in transactions between 100 and 10k ALGOs seems to be losing steam since mid-March, we will see how it continues.
Conclusion
As a conclusion, we have analyzed the ALGO transactions payment, focusing on the size of the transactions volume. After an overview of the number of transactions and active senders since January, we have taken a look not only at the size of the payment transactions, but also the percentage of volume shared by each group of size. The analysis concluded that despite the number of payment transactions has decreased, the payment size has increased over that period. As well, we have seen how the major of the volume comes from the group of transactions size with the highest size. For sure, this are good news for Algorand network because of it seems like more volume are being moved despite the downtrend in number of payment transactions.
