ENS Revenue Distribution

How much revenue has been generated from ENS name registrations since the airdrop? How much revenue has been generated from ENS name renewals since the airdrop? Create at least one visual depicting the relationship between these two revenue streams. How do you expect this dynamic to change over the next two years.

First of all, we will analyze the revenues generated by registrations and renewals separately:

    • First chart shows the daily revenue generated by ENS registrations over time since the airdrop launch and the accumulated revenue generated so far, both in ETH. As we can see, the first days after airdrop were prominent in this case, reaching the peak of almost 16 ETH which is equivalent to 65k USD at the current ETH price. After a week, the daily registrations decreased dramatically and now seems that it is stabilized in approximately 4 daily ETH of revenues (16000 USD).

    • The second chart shows the daily revenue generated by ENS renewals over time since the airdrop launch and the accumulated revenue generated so far, both in ETH as in the previous analysis. As we can see, the first days after airdrop were good as well, reaching the peak of almost 0.9 ETH which is equivalent to 3700 USD at the current ETH price. After a week, the daily registrations decreased dramatically and now seems that it is not as stabilized as in the registrations case, so the daily revenues range goes from 0.05 to 0.5 ETH (200-2000USD).

Now, we will take a look at the relationship between both revenues:

    • The first chart shows both daily charts, the registrations revenues vs renewals revenues over time. Analyzing it, we can see how the charts look similar, so we can interpret that the number of registrations is correlated to the number of renewals.
    • The second chart is a scatter plot of both revenues as well, in this case, one versus the other. We can see how when the number of revenues of one of them grows, the other do it as well, despite some disperse points. It could indicate that there is some correlation between both as stated in the previous point.

Finally, to take a look at the global revenues, I plotted the are which represents the accumulated of both revenues over time since airdrop launch. Taking a look at today's point (December 24th), the cumulative generated revenue by registrations is 253.19 ETH and the cumulative generated revenue by renewals is 10.41 ETH. The sum of both is around 264 ETH, which is equivalent to more than a million USD (approx 1.08M USD)!

To conclude, we have seen how the number of revenues, in general, has grown a lot after the first week of the airdrop launch, however now is more static. But, the number is pretty good so during that time, a total of a million USD has been obtained from both revenues, registrations, and renewals. Besides, we have seen also that registrations have a major part of the total ENS revenues, with approximately 96% of them. It is a logical think due to the price of registration is not the same as the renewal one. Finally, another important aspect that we have seen is that the revenues of both parts follow the same dynamics, indicating that the number of registrations and renewals remains similar.
