What's going on with Optimism?
The goal here is to explore the Optimism top dapps to track the current situation and evolution over the past month.
Introduction and methodology
Ethereum has grown to become the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, thanks in large part to its support for smart contracts-which underpins a growing ecosystem of decentralized applications (dapps) and decentralized financial platforms (DeFi). Optimism is one such scaling solution. \n \n Optimism is a layer 2 scaling solution that uses Optimistic Rollups to process a large number of transactions outside the Ethereum blockchain. The project claims it can trade smart contracts five to 500 times cheaper than Ethereum layer 1. It speeds up Ethereum transactions and reduces their costs by settling them on another blockchain using advanced data compression techniques.
The intention of this dashboard is to provide a global view of the current situation of Optimism. Then, in the following analysis you can explore the following:
- Top 10 most popular Optimism events over the past month
- Top 10 most popular Optimism token contracts over the past month
- Top 10 most popular Optimism pools over the past month
In these final charts we can see how the amount of transactions using the Optimism pools increased during the past month, passing from around 30k to 50k daily transactions. If we take a look at the second chart, it can be seen how the Velodrome pools increased in dominance with respect the other pools.
Conclusions
This dashboard provides a good overview of three of the most important features on Optimism: events, token contracts and pools. Thanks to this analysis, we can see how the most important insights extracted taking into account the last month are:
- Transfers and swaps are the most important events used on Optimism
- USDC, WETH, vUSD and OP are the token contracts most used on Optimism
- Genesis wETH/USDC pool, and OP/USDC and WETH/USDC Velodrome pools are the most used on Optimism
Finally, these following final three charts try to get an overview of the current most important pools used on Optimism.
In this case, there are three main pools representing more than 50% of the transactions:
- WETH/USDC pool on Genesis
- Volatile OP/USDC Velodrome pool
- Volatile WETH/USDC Velodrome pool
The first two represents more than 20% of the transactions each, while the third one less than 12%. The major of the rest of the pools are from Uniswap and represent between 8 and 4% of the total top 10 pools transactions.
In these two toher charts we have analyzed the top 10 Optimism token contracts during the last month. At the end of June there was a clear dominance of USDC token, followed by WETH and vUSD. From June 28th to about July 13th there was a considerable drop in the use of the contracts. From then on, it went up again and the OP token started to dominate, leaving the other tokens behind.
The following three charts try to get an overview of the current most important tokens on Optimism.
At left, we have analyzed the top 10 Optimism tokens by contracts in the last month. We see that there are three tokens that predominate over the other tokens and the fourth also has a very high percentage.
In first place, we find USDC, with 24.7%, in second place we find the WETH token, representing 22.2%, in third place there is vUSD, with 19.1% and, finally, in fourth place is OP, representing 12.9%.
The other six Optimism tokens represent less than 5% each.
In the other two graphs above, we have analyzed the daily top 10 Optimism events and their percentages for one month. We can see that the Optimism events had a drop from June 28th to approximately July 17th. After that, the number of events increased again. We can also observe that, especially at the end of the month, Transfer and Swap predominate well above the other events.

The following three charts try to get an overview of the current most important events on Optimism.
In this first graph we can see the top 10 Optimism events during the last month. There are clearly three events that stand out from the others.
In first place, Transfef represents 36.1% of the total, in second place we find Swap, representing 24.4% and, finally, in third place there is Approval, with 14.8%.
The other 7 Optimism events represent less than 5% each.
