Polygon Block Performance

What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks? How many transactions are done in a block on average? How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?

    Introduction:

For the Ethereum blockchain, Polygon is a secondary scaling solution. Rather than using their own blockchain, these solutions integrate with an existing blockchain network. Polygon works on Ethereum, which has become increasingly slow and costly as it becomes more popular.

Platform Polygon uses Ethereum’s blockchain to connect Ethereum-based projects. In addition to increasing the flexibility, scalability, and sovereignty of a blockchain project, the Polygon platform offers the security, interoperability, and structural advantages of the Ethereum blockchain

    Methodology:

In this dashboard, to get the minimum and maximum and the average recorded time between blocks, we have used core.fact_blocks table and calculated the difference in block creation time. Each of the reviewed projects L1 and L2 have this table.

In the next step, we have obtained the number of transactions for each block by joining tablecore.fact_blocks with tablecore.fact_transactions

    for each project.

All calculated times are in seconds

In the first part, an analysis has been done on recorded time between two blocks in Polygon project compared to L2 Arbitrum and Optimism projects.

For each project, the minimum, maximum, median, and average values have been calculated so that among the 3 L2 projects examined, the highest average time is related to Polygon with the value of 2.25 seconds and the lowest average is related to Optimism with the value of 0.875 seconds.

    Conclusion:

In this analysis, maximum, minimum, average and median recorded time between two blocks and also the number of transactions are done in a block on average are obtained. Also, for further explanation, the average number of transactions per block in the daily period in three modes, Max and Min, and the average are shown for polygan compared to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum and Optimism.

By seeing the results, it can be concluded that Polygon has a good situation in relation to the measured parameters compared to other investigated projects, and in terms of the average recorded time between two blocks and the average number of transactions in a block, it has the highest value after Solana.

Another interesting thing that has been understood is that in the case of Optimism, the average number of transactions are done in a block in Min and Max and avrerage modes is equal to 1 according to the data in the tables.

In the Second part, an analysis has been done on recorded time between two blocks in Polygon project compared to L1 Solana and Flow projects.

For each project, the minimum, maximum, median, and average values have been calculated so that among the 2 L1 projects examined, the highest average time is related to Polygon with the value of 2.25 seconds and the lowest average is related to Solana with the value of 0.669 seconds.

In the last part, In the last part, the average number of transactions are done per block for Polygon compared to other 4 projects is given and the number of transactions per block in the daily time frame in three modes, minimum, maximum, and average for the Polygon project compared to projects Arbitrum,Optimism,Solana and Flow are given. By moving on each of the graphs, you can see the minimum and maximum values and the average number of transactions per block at different times. The highest number of transactions in the block is 3,720, which is related to Solana, and after Solana, Polygon with 1,332 transactions per block is in the next rank among the other 3 projects. Regarding the average number of transactions, the highest value is related to Solana with an average of 348 transactions and the lowest is related to Optimism with 1 transaction. In the case of Polygon, the average is 75.8, which ranks second after Solana.
