As we are aware, Tornado Cash is in the news due to the sanctions imposed by the US government and the freezing of $75K of USDC from Circle. 

Tornado Cash is basically a tool that runs on Ethereum blockchain and it can be called as a Tumbler or a Mixer in fancy terms. Because, Tornado cash simply mixes your crypto with a bunch of other People's crypto to be able to anonymize.

On seeing all the above graph or visuals, here are few observations:

• “tornado.cash : router” is the top Tornado cash address in terms of maximum number of transactions as well as transaction volume received over a certain period of time like one month, last quarter, year etc..

• Maximum number of transactions for Tornado cash addresses falls under the ETH bucket range “less than 0.01 ETH”.

• Around 58.5K transactions has been recorded for Tornado cash addresses within the range “0.1-1 ETH”.

In this article, we will explore the transactions performed by Tornado Cash addresses and assess its transaction volume over a period of time i.e. one month, last quarter, year etc..

Methodology

We will first look at the transactions performed and transaction volume of Tornado Cash addresses measured as below

• Total Transaction Volume received by Tornado Cash addresses in the past one year
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses that have received most transaction volume in past 30 days
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses that have received most transaction volume in last Quarter
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses that have received most transaction volume in last one year
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses who performed most # of transaction in last 30 days
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses who performed most # of transaction in the last Quarter
• Top 10 Tornado cash addresses who performed most # of transaction in the last year

Then we will group the transactions performed into bucket range by ETH value and identify the number of transactions performed under each bucket range as below

• Less than 0.01

• 0.01 to 0.1 ETH

• 0.1 to 1 ETH

• 1 to 10 ETH

• 10 to 100 ETH

• above 100 ETH

For this analysis, we will be using data from ethereum.core.dim_labels, ethereum.core.fact_transactions and flipside_prod_db. crosschain.address_labels tables. We will fetch the Tornado cash addresses based on the project_name column having “tornado cash” for plotting required charts or visuals.
