True Freeze Metrics Analysis
Standard metrics to analyze frozen ETH (frETH)
Introduction
True freeze is a protocol that serves the purpose of locking ETH and prevents the locked ETH from circulation over a certain period of time . In order to control the locked Ethereum, the depositor receives a frETH token (i.e. frozen ETH token) along with an NFT.
The aim of this dashboard is to analyze the frozen ETH in terms of standard metrics such as
-
Daily volume of ETH frozen (frETH) over time
-
Daily number of transactions to freeze ETH
-
Daily count of early redemptions
-
Total volume of ETH frozen (frETH) so far
-
Total Users transacted to freeze ETH so far etc.
-
Daily Redemptions of frozen ETH
\
Methodology
For this analysis, first we will look at the daily transaction volume of ETH frozen (i.e. frETH) over the past few days on Ethereum chain.
We will be using data from ethereum.core.ez_token_transfers table to retrieve the transaction volume and here are the frETH contract addresses identified from ethereum.core.dim_contracts table.

Here is the visual that shows the Total number of transactions performed to freeze ETH over the past few days on Ethereum chain is 107.
When we look at the total number of transactions to freeze ETH on a daily basis, a maximum number of such transactions has been observed as 39 on 20th June 2022.
The below chart represents the total number of unique users who have performed transactions to freeze ETH over the past few days on Ethereum chain is 23.
So, When we verify the total unique users count who have performed frETH transactions on a daily basis, a maximum number of users transacting frETH has been recorded on 20th June 2022.
Looking at the below visual, we can see the total volume of frozen ETH (frETH) transacted over the past few months on Ethereum chain is 92.5M. However, when we observe on a daily basis, we could see that there has been a sudden spike in volume on 20th June 2022 where in a maximum volume of frETH has been transacted the same day, with a total volume of 54.66M.
\
Conclusion
According to the above graphs and visuals, here are few observations:
- Highest volume of frozen ETH (frETH) has been transacted on 20th of June 2022, with a volume of 54.66M.
- Maximum number of transactions to freeze ETH has been observed on 20th June 2022, with a count of 39.
- Also, highest amount of ETH frozen has been redeemed on 20th of June 2022 when verified on a hourly basis.
References
Early redemptions for frozen ETH (frETH) is to withdraw or redeem locked ETH before completion of the lock period, which users would have preferred to lock their ETH from circulation for that particular time period.
Here is the visual that shows the hourly redemptions of locked ETH (or frozen ETH) over the past few days on Ethereum chain.
Looking at this hourly statistics, we can see that a maximum amount has been redeemed on 20th June 2022.
