    Introduction

Lido is a staking protocol that allows for liquid staking of multiple assets such as Ethereum, Terra and Solana. Normally, the coins that you are staking are locked and cannot be used for anything else. With Lido, users are able to stake their assets and get a token in return that can be used to redeem their staked assets. This is called liquid staking as this new token can be used freely. For Ethereum, this token is called stETH (staked ETH).

This dashboard focuses on how much ETH is staked with Lido in total, as well as the daily amount of ETH staked.

    Methodology

To find the total amount of ETH staked with Lido, the ethereum.erc20_balances table was used in combination with the contract address for stETH: 0xae7ab96520DE3A18E5e111B5EaAb095312D7fE84. This allows us to find the total amount of stETH in users' wallets. Because every stETH represents 1 staked ETH, finding the total balance of stETH allows us to find the total amount of ETH staked with Lido.

To find the daily amount of ETH staked, the ethereum.core.fact_event_logs table was used. Lido staking transactions are characterised by a event_inputs:from that is equal to 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000 and the contract address that is equal to 0xae7ab96520DE3A18E5e111B5EaAb095312D7fE84.

    Results

The graph above shows the daily amount of ETH staked with Lido along with the 7-day moving average to indicate the trends. On March 15th, the largest total amount of ETH was staked, with a total of almost 200K ETH. When looking at the moving averages, we can see that there is a clear downtrend in the daily amount of ETH staked. We can see that since the mid-May, the amount of new ETH staked with Lido has decreased significantly. This is due to the de-pegging of the stETH token, meaning that one stETH is no longer worth 1 ETH.

    Key findings

    • A total of 4.2M ETH has been staked with Lido
    • On March 15th, almost 200K was staked, the largest amount over the last 90 days
    • Since half of May, the amount of new ETH staked with Lido has decreased dramatically
