Art Blocks: Old vs. New Contract

When reviewing the Art Blocks data, I noticed usage of two contracts. I reviewed these contracts on etherscan and noticed that one of these is called the Old BLOCKS Token. A comparison of these two contracts may open up some interesting meta within Art Blocks.

    Comparing Chromie Squiggle to Fidenza

As Squiggles and Fidenzas are two of the most well known Art Blocks Curated projects, I wanted to take a look at their performance over the past 90 days.

See below graphs showing the rising of the median price of these projects.

The Chromie Squiggles are bit lower on the average sale side relative to other well known projects such as Fidenza by Tyler Hobbs.

But I always find the median sales price to be more insightful. The median on Chromie Squiggle sales seem low and imply that the tokens were trading for extreme discounts prior to the recent run.

Next, I wanted to look at some of the sales metrics for collections that are top 10 in volume.

We see that Chromie Squiggles (minted on the old contract) have the 4th highest sale as of August 26, 2021.

Overall secondary market volume on the new contract is also much larger than tokens minted on the old contract, though this is likely expected given the amount of tokens on the new contract.

These charts will continue to update to show the past 90 days.

Only one project minted on the old contract is in the top 10 (as of August 2021).

Mints on the new contract has far surpassed those on the old contract.
