    What is Optimism?

Optimism is a L2 blockchain that is designed to be quick, stable, and scalable. It was built by Ethereum developers specifically for Ethereum developers. Optimism's EVM-equivalent architecture, which was built as a minimal extension to existing Ethereum software, scales your Ethereum applications without surprising you with any unexpected behavior. Optimism is an Ethereum scaling solution that is capable of supporting all of Ethereum's decentralized applications (Dapps). Optimism increases the number of transactions that can be processed by Ethereum per second while simultaneously lowering the fees associated with each transaction. This is accomplished by running computation off-chain rather than on the Ethereum network, where it would otherwise be run.

    Introduction to Optimism token

The native token of Optimism is called Optimism (OP), and there are a total of 4.294 billion of them. The OP token gives its owner the right to take part in The Optimism Collective, which is run by the Token House and the Citizens' House. Later in 2022, Citizens' House will be open to the public. Token House is already up and running, and it makes technical decisions about Optimism, like when to update software. Funding decisions for public goods are made by the Citizens' House. In its early days, Optimism raised money

    Introduction to Optimism airdrop

The first Airdrop from the Optimism Foundation was a way to thank early adopters and regular users of projects in the Optimism ecosystem. People who met a number of requirements before March 25, 2022, such as exchanging tokens on Optimism's blockchain and voting on governance proposals, got the free coins.

On May 31, OP launched its OP token. Based on official Optimism documents, 214,748,364.80 OP tokens could be claimed for free by 248,699 different addresses. This is called a "airdrop." That's 5% of the total supply of 4.29 billion, which means that 95% of the supply hasn't hit the market yet.

    Methodology

In this dashboard, we'll look at the airdrop activities by applying the following condition:

    • OP Token Address : 0x4200000000000000000000000000000000000042
    • Airdrop Distribution Contract: 0xfedfaf1a10335448b7fa0268f56d2b44dbd357de
    • Origin function signature: 0x2e7ba6ef

    Outline

    • OP Airdrop Overview
    • What happened to airdropped OP?
    • Delegation activities of airdropped users

The chart on the left displays top 10 delegate destination by OP Airdrop Claimers

    • Lindaxie.ETH is the most popular delegate with nearly 14K airdrop claimers sent their delegations
    • Quix Marketplace is the second most popular destination with 11289 airdrop claimers’ delegations.

    Conclusion

    • For the Airdrop, a total of 214,748,364.80 OP tokens (5% of the total supply) were given to 248,699 different users. 60.5% of all eligible users, which is 150,474 users have already claimed their OP airdrop. There are still almost 39.5% of users, or 98,225, who have not claimed their OP.
    • These users have already claimed 159,616,725,79 OP tokens, which is 74.3% of all tokens. There are still 55,131,639.20 (nearly 26%) OP that haven't been claimed.
    • Taking into account the above, most users have already claimed their OP, especially those who were eligible to claim a lot of OP.
    • During the first days of the Airdrop, the most number of eligible users claimed their OP, and also the most amount of OP was claimed.

    • On May 31, 2022, people could start claiming their airdrops.

    • Most of the claims were made by users in the first few days of claim.

    • The total claimed volume so far is 159.6M OP while the total OP can be airdropped is 215M. This means there’s still 55.1M of OP remains unclaimed until today.

    • The daily average OP claimed per airdrop also decrease over time from over 1400 OP per day in the early days to just between 700 OP and 400 OP in the recent days.

    • Overall the average OP claim is just 1060 OP.

    • On June 1, 2022, 73062 users claimed airdrop. On May 31, 2022, 40923 users claimed airdrop, and on June 2, 2022, 73062 users claimed airdrop (9230 users).
    • 150K users claimed the airdrop, which is 59.9% of the total number of users who could claim the airdrop.

    • 27.2% of users (40923) claimed their airdrop in May 2022, account for 27.2% of all claimed users until now
    • We can see that most users decided to claim their airdrop in the first two months when more than 70% of user did that.

    What happened to airdropped OP?

    • We can see that more than 141M OP(88.9%) from airdrop were transferred from holder wallets while only around over 17M of OP still remaining in holder wallets.
    • Regarding the airdrop receiver breakdown, we can see that over 133K wallets decided to sell their airdropped OPs, account for 88.7% of all wallets

    Delegation activities of airdropped users

As can be seen from the charts, there are total 102K delegators on Optimism.

Among airdropped users, there are around 138K users delegated their OP to delegates while there’s only 44K users didn’t delegate anything

According to the chart on the left we can see that the majority of airdropped users decided to delegate their OP token after receiving the airdropped.
