User Behavior (redux)

    Tasks

    • How is user behavior different on Optimism compared to L1?
    • create a comparison between swaps and transactions on ETH mainnet vs Optimism, looking for things like
      • daily swap volume
      • daily active users
      • average volume swapped
    • What are the average fees for a swap on Optimism compared to ETH Mainnet?

    Dashboard Guide

    • This dashboard compares user behavior in Uniswap-V3 on Optimism and Ethereum.
    • We provide the image descriptions in the left column.
    • We use USD as a unit for all swap volume, and ETH for all fees generated
    • The reader can change the past day parameter for a longer period, however, The analysis is provided based on 30 past days.

    Methodology

To compare user behavior between Optimism and ethereum, we divided this dashboard into 4 sections.

    1. Swaps Overview- swap volume, swap count, wallet count, pool count, and daily average measures are provided.
    2. Swap volume distribution - provide general statistics, distribution, and daily swap volume per swap.
    3. Peak time by swap count - show peak time based on swap count
    4. fees generated - to identify how cheap is fees on L2?

    Parameters

    • past_days: Number of last days to be included in calculations.

    Total swap information

The graphs on the right show the exact and percentage values on various measures for each blockchain.

    • Ethereum has the best performance in all measures.
    • Total swap volume on Ethereum is around 19B and exceeds 98% of the total swap volume.

    Daily average

The graph on the right shows the daily average value on various measures for each blockchain.

    • The daily average shows the same result as the total information, with a different value for each measure.

    Daily swap information

Graphs on the right show the daily swap volume and active user count for each blockchain.

    • There is a similar trend in both blockchains on swap volume with some magnitude larger on Ethereum.
    • The number of active users on Ethereum is always higher daily.

Daily per-swap and per-wallet average information

Graphs on the right show the daily per-swap and per-wallet average volume for each blockchain.

    • There is a similar trend in both blockchains and measures on swap volume with some magnitude larger on Ethereum.

    Swap volume statistic

The right graphs show the general statistics on swap volume for each blockchain.

    • Ethereum is larger swap volume in all measures.

    Swap volume distribution

The graphs on the right depict the swap volume distribution based on the swap size

    • Ethereum has the higher count on mid-large volume, however, Optimism outperform on the small volume section.

The table on the right shows the peak time ranked by transaction count for each day of the week and time of day.

    • Optimism’s peak time is daytime on Friday, Tuesday, and Monday. While Ethereum's peak time is intense on Tuesday evenings.
    • The two figures below show the complete information on each time for each period.

Total, daily average, per-swap average fees generated

    • The total swap count in the first section shows that the swap count on Ethereum is roughly 3x more than on Optimism. However, fees generated by Optimism are more than 100x smaller than on Ethereum.
    • From a different point of view, the per-swap average fees on Optimism are also 54x smaller than on Ethereum.
    • Thus, these two bullets can show confirm that cheap fees on L2.

    Daily per-swap average fees.

    • The trend on both blockchains is similar with the different of magnitude cheaper fees on Optimism.

    Conclusion

    • Ethereum wins both total and daily average information measurements.
    • On a daily basis, the trends are similar on both blockchains, with some magnitude larger in value on Ethereum.
    • The differences in behavior between users on Ethereum and Optimism are on the swap volume and peak time
      • Ethereum has larger swap count on mid-large volume and a smaller count on small volume.
      • Optimism's peak time is daytime on Friday, Tuesday, and Monday, while Ethereum’s peak is intense on Tuesday evening.
