Polygon Block Performance

    Question

Create a dashboard and answer to following questions to analyse the block performance on Polygon Network.

What is the average time between blocks on Polygon?

What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks?

How many transactions are done in a block on average?

How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?

    Method

    • Data will limit from June 2022 until today July 24th due the lack of information on Polygon tables.
    • Main table for all chains I used is core.fact_blocks.from Flipside Crypto's.

    What is blockchain performance?

Performance of blockchain networks is generally measured as the average time it takes for a transaction to be validated and stored in each peer node in a way that it cannot be reversed or revoked and average time takes in seconds for a block to be put in the blockchain.

It Takes about 2 seconds for a block to be put in the Polygon blockchain.

Maximum time that is taken so far is 25 seconds and minimum time is 2 seconds.

The following figures shows the minimum, maximum and average time between

blocks to put it the blockchains.

Minimum time for all blockchains is 0 except Polygon that is 2 seconds.

Average time for Polygon as we saw on above is 2.24 seconds.

This item for other blockchains have shown in the bar graph below.

Average time between blocks for Solana is 0.66 seconds , Flow takes 1.4 seconds

Arbitrum has 0.89 seconds and Optimism as another layer 2 blockchain is 0.91 seconds.

So between all these networks, Polygon has the highest average time that it takes for it to put a block in itself.

When we look into the maximum time between blocks, Solana is in the first place. Maximum time that it take for this chain to include a block in itselt is 8,666 seconds which is huge number and delay.

Second slow chain is Arbitrum which it tooks 247 seconds for it to put a block in itself.

Average transactions that has been doing per a block on Polygon is 75.7 number.

Maximum and highest number that happened so far is 1332 transactions and minimum number is only 1 transaction.

Again I compared Polygon with other chains to see their performs on number of transactions in a block.

From the following figures, Solana on both average and maximum transactions number per in a block is in the first place.

Maximum number of transactions that is done on Solana is 7597 and average number is 1747 transactions. On both terms Polygon has been following Solana.

If we wanna compare Polygon with layer 2 chains like Arbitrum and Optimism we should say that Polygon has by far biggest numbers.

    Key Findings

    • Recorded times between blocks in Polygon is 2 seconds as Minimum time, Maximum time that took to include a block on Polygon is 25 seconds and average time to perform this actions is 2.24 Seconds.

      \

    • The number of transactions that have done in a block for Polygon is 75.7 transactions as average amount

and 1332 transactions as highest number that occurred on our time period.

Note: Again our data to perform our analysis is from June 2022 until today July 24th.
