Flow Speed

Q4. One of Flow's main features is its speed compared to other blockchains. Blockchain performance can be measured as Transactions per minute. Measure the transactions per minute of Flow since May 9th and 'Successful transactions per minute' and create a chart showing how that metric has fluctuated during that time period.

    Methodology

    1. Calculate the Flow transaction per minute (TPM) since May 9th.

    2. Get the daily Flow TPM and Unique user count.

    3. Find out the daily success and failure TPM.

    4. Get the daily transaction count from the top 10 events, and analyze any correlation with TPM.

    5. Calculate the success TPM from the Solana and Ethereum.

Measure the transactions per minute of Flow since May 9th

Since 9th May, Flow's average transaction per minute is 424.

Since 9th May, Flow's average successful transaction per minute is 306.

What types of events have raised or decreased the blockchain's performance over that time period?

This graph displays the daily average transaction per minute (TPM) and unique user count for Flow.

We can see that the TPM of Flow fluctuates between 250 and 450 TPM on a daily basis, peaking at roughly 800 TPM on May 30th.

We can also conclude from the unique user and TPM comparison that the unique user count does not correspond with the TPM on the Flow chain.

Create a chart showing how that metric has fluctuated during that time period.

The graph depicts daily TPM, which includes Success, Fail, and Combined. Interestingly, the overall transaction volume swings between 250 and 250 each day, however the daily failure TPM is fairly low prior to May 26th and rapidly increased after that to 670 failure TPM on May 30th.

Are there bursts of transaction volume or interest on the chain?

The chart shows Flow's daily top 10 transaction events. The transaction volume has increased dramatically many times, peaking on May 15 with approximately 6 million transactions from the top ten events.

Compare Flow's speed to at least two other blockchains

In this section, we will compare the Flow speed with the other blockchains, which are Ethereum and Solana.

    Conclusion

The graphs depict the daily and overall success TPM from the three blockchains since May 9, 2022.

Solana has the highest daily success TPM of over 11k, followed by Etereum at around 750 TPM and Flow at around 300 TPM.

To find out which types of events have raised or decreased the blockchain's performance, let's find out the daily TPM from all types. Which are,

    1. Daily Success TPM
    2. Daily Fail TPM
    3. Daily Total TPM

The graph depicts the percentage of Flow's daily transaction event count. There were no odd events in the graph from May 27 to May 30.

We can deduce that the TPM failure is caused by others than the transaction event type.

    • Since May 9th, Flow's average transaction per minute has been 424, with approximately 300 of them being successful.
    • Flow TPM swings everyday between 250 and 450 TPM, peaking at around 800 TPM on May 30th.
    • The TPM on the Flow chain does not correspond to the unique user count.
    • After May 26th, daily failure TPM quickly climbed, peaking at 670 failure TPM on May 30th.
    • There were no unusual occurrences in the graph from May 27 to 30, indicating that TPM failure is caused by factors other than the transaction event type.
    • Solana has the highest daily success TPM of almost 11k, followed by Etereum at approximately 750 TPM and Flow at approximately 300 TPM.
