Avalanche Block and Transaction Performance

Flipside has Avalanche data! It's now time to start digging into the blockchain's performance at a high level. Avalanche supports quick block finality and high TPS, can we see this in block and transaction performance since 6/20?

    Introduction

    What is Avalanche?

Avalanche is a decentralized, open-source proof of stake blockchain with smart contract functionality. AVAX is the native cryptocurrency of the platform. Avalanche is a blockchain that promises to combine scaling capabilities and quick confirmation times through its Avalanche Consensus Protocol. It can process 4,500 TPS (transactions per second). Avalanche supports subnets, subnetwork, is a dynamic set of validators working together to achieve consensus on the state of a set of blockchains. Each blockchain is validated by exactly one subnet. A subnet can validate many blockchains.

    How are blockchains performance measured?

Performance of blockchain networks is generally measured as the average time it takes for a transaction to be validated and stored in each peer node in a way that it cannot be reversed or revoked. The size and activity of a community is essential for evaluating the adoption and health status of a blockchain project, in fact the size and effort committed by a community allows measurement: the level of adoption; the level of maturity; the speed of evolution.

    Methodology

We are looking to see how Avalanche is performing as a blochching in terms of user transactions fair and TPS. inorders to determine the health of the network we will find the following metrics:

    • Hourly MIN, AVG, and MAX tps of Avalanche

    • Hourly Avalanche transaction failure

    • Hourly Avalanche smart contract interaction

    Observations

The average TPS of avelanche is usually between 1.5 and 5 and the max hourly TPS has been as high as 25 in the past week. Generally the transaction failure ralt on Avalanche is around 10%. When there are periods of high TPS there is also a spike in transaction failures.

    Observations

Currently there are between 147,000 and 205,000 smart contract interactions on Avalanche and between 38,000 and 43,000 execute these transactions each day. Out of these transactions the largest group is token transfers that make up between 35% and 40% of all transfers Ntfs have not made up over 5% of Avalanche smart contact interactions since mid June.

    Observations

Generally there are about 4 blocks per hour because the average Avalanche block takes about 16 Minutes. Most large avalanche blocks hold between 100 and 15 transactions. Most hours there are between 50 and 100 AVAX spent on gas fees for Avalanche.

    Conclusion

Overall The average TPS of avelanche is usually between 1.5 and 5 and the max hourly TPS has been as high as 25 in the past week. Currently there are between 147,000 and 205,000 smart contract interactions on Avalanche and between 38,000 and 43,000 execute these transactions each day.
