Developer Activity
Introduction
Welcome to the NEAR Developer Activity Dashboard! This dashboard is designed to provide a comprehensive view of developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem. It offers a wide range of metrics and data that will help you understand the level of developer engagement and activity within the NEAR community. The dashboard includes data on the number of Git actions by developers. Additionally, it provides information on the number of contributors to the NEAR repositories and the number of active developers on the platform. All data on this dashboard is updated in real-time, providing you with the most up-to-date information on developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem. The dashboard is user-friendly and easy to navigate, allowing you to find the data you need to make informed decisions quickly.
Methodology
In the NEAR Developer Activity Dashboard, we have included several sections to provide a comprehensive view of developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem.
- New NEAR Developers: This section provides a view of new developers who have recently joined the NEAR community. This section displays the number of new developers per month and highlights any notable spikes in new developer activity.
- Daily Action by Developer Type: This section provides a view of daily developer activity broken down by developer type (e.g. contributor, member, collaborator). This section displays the number of git actions performed per day by each developer type, providing an overview of the level of engagement of different types of developers.
- Developer Activity: This section provides a view of developer activity over time. This section displays the number of git actions performed per month by each developer, providing an overview of the level of engagement of different developers.
- Top Repos: This section provides a view of the most active repos in the NEAR ecosystem. This section displays the number of git actions performed per month by each repo, providing an overview of the level of engagement of different repos.
- Developer Cross-Repo Activity: This section provides a view of developer activity across different repos. This section displays the number of git actions performed by each developer across different repos, providing an overview of how active developers are across different repos.
Overall, these sections provide a comprehensive view of developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem, helping users understand the engagement level of the community and make data-driven decisions.

Near Developer Activity by Activity group
New Near Developers
Analysis
The first graph on the dashboard shows the total number of unique developers who have interacted with NEAR repositories on Github. The data indicates that there have been a total of 2480 unique developers who have contributed to NEAR projects on Github. Further analysis shows that about half of these developers began contributing in the year 2022. The graphs also shows the trend of developer activity over time. The data shows that the number of active developers and git actions (such as pull requests and issues) have been on an upward trend over a long period of time. However, since April 2022, there has been a downtrend in the number of git actions performed by developers. Aditionally the current state of developer activity on NEAR repositories on Github. It shows that there are currently about 120 people contributing to NEAR repositories each week. Analysis of this data indicates that about 41% of these developers are categorized as "contributors" and not official members of the NEAR team
Contributor Activity breakdown
Analysis
One of the key insights from the dashboard is that the two most active NEAR Github developers are contributors and members. This highlights the importance of these two groups in driving development and growth within the NEAR ecosystem. Additionally, the data shows that over half of the people who have been active on the NEAR Github have made 2 or less actions and have only been active for one month. This indicates that there is a large number of developers who make occasional contributions, but the vast majority of activity in the code comes from a small group of developers who are consistently active. This information can be used to identify and target these active developers for further engagement and support.
Top Near Repos
Analysis
The data from these graphs suggest that there is a high concentration of activity within a small group of NEAR repositories. Only 18 out of the total number of NEAR repos have over 50 contributors, and only 3 have over 2,000 git actions. This highlights that most of the development work and collaboration is happening within a select few repos. The top 4 repos, nearcore, stakewars, and docs, are particularly active and are likely the primary focus of the NEAR developer community. Additionally, the data shows that 90% of contributors are active on 3 or less NEAR repos, further emphasizing the concentration of activity within a small group of repos. This could indicate that there is a lack of engagement and participation across the NEAR repo ecosystem as a whole.
Developers by Active Repos
Conclusion
In conclusion, the NEAR Developer Activity Dashboard provides a wealth of information on developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem. The data shows that there is a large number of developers who make occasional contributions to the NEAR community, but a small group of developers drive the majority of the activity. The dashboard also highlights the importance of contributors and members in driving development and growth within the NEAR ecosystem. Additionally, it provides valuable information on the most active repos in the NEAR ecosystem and the level of developer engagement across different repos. Overall, the dashboard is a valuable tool for understanding developer activity within the NEAR ecosystem and making data-driven decisions.
