The Unstakeeeeers
What is Osmosis?
Osmosis, which was built with the Cosmos SDK, makes use of Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) to facilitate cross-chain transactions. In other words, Osmosis is a decentralized exchange designed particularly for Cosmos, with intention to spread to other blockchains in the future.
How does Osmosis Staking work?
Validators and delegators that help secure the network through staking will receive 25% of newly released OSMO. Validators operate nodes that participate in the consensus of the chain.
Observations
In the past year in over 90% of days there has been more OSMO staked than unstaked. There has been a large increase in both stacking and unstaking volume of OSMO starting in May of 2022 this increased volume has continued for 2 months. only about 15% of the volume of OSMO staked was redelegated. In the first quarter of 2022 there was a large spike in OSMO redeligation volume.
Conclusion
The average Osmosis delegates over 15 times and only delegates 1.8 times. The users that are undelegating and redelegating OSMO are delegating a larger amount of OSMO on average. In the past year in over 90% of days there has been more OSMO staked than unstaked. There has been a large increase in both stacking and unstacking volume of OSMO starting in May of 2022 this increased volume has continued for 2 months. only about 15% of the volume of OSMO staked was redelegated. In the first quarter of 2022 there was a large spike in OSMO redeligation volume. Overall users are Delegating their OSMO with increasing volume frequency over time and a small proportion of deligatos are undeligating.
