Hacks, Scandals and Scams - 3. Whales On Alert

Identify active wallets with a high balance of ETH (whales). Visualize the ETH transaction history of these whales in May and June 2022.

    ACTIVE WHALES

To answer this question, we should set 2 different conditions for the wallets to consider them as active whales; First, they should have a minimum of 1 transaction per day since the beginning of 2022 ( or at least 180 transactions in the first 6 months of 2022 ) to consider them as an active wallet then they should hold a large amount of ETH to consider them as a Whale.

    TOP 10

The following table and graphs show us the top 10 (by balance) wallets that meet both of these conditions:

As you can see, the balance of the top whale is almost 2 times that of the second whale but has the lowest number of transactions.

    DAILY TRANSACTIONS

The following graph shows the number of transactions initiated by each whale (and their cumulative value)

And here we have the distribution of daily transactions. As you can see more than 95% of daily transactions are for only 3 Whales (more than 97% for only 4 whales and less than 3% for the other 6 Whales)

    TYPE OF TRANSACTIONS

The following graph shows the total number of each type of transaction that happened by our top 10 whales.

The top 3 transaction types are (98.23%) :

    1- Transfer - 89.4%

    2- Approval- 4.72%

    3- DelegatedPowerChanged - 4.11%

And here you can see the number of each type of transaction in May - June 2022 and daily distribution of them in the same period.

    CONCLUSION

    • The distribution of transactions for our top 10 wallets is not even (most of transactions are for 3 wallets)

    • From May 7th we have an increase in the number of transactions until May 12th when it reaches its peak (12k to 33.5k)

    • The same behavior happened on June 12th-13th when the number of transactions jumped from 14k to 25k

    • Most of the transactions are Transfer (89.4%)
