Layer 2 Blocks

Q2. How many layer2 StarkNet blocks have been accepted on Ethereum (L1) chain so far? How much fees have been paid(generated) to Ethereum network? Has StarkNet contributed to saving in transaction fees for its users?

    Method

    In this dashboard I analyzed:

    • Total number of layer2 StarkNet Blocks
    • Total fees paid by those blocks
    • Comparison between L1 transactions fees and L2 transactions fees

    Accepted Blocks

According to our database until June 29th, 2896 layer2 StarkNet blocks have been accepted on Ethereum (L1) chain, and 50.31 ETH was paid by these blocks which means 0.02 ETH per Block.

    Comparison

Let's compare these blocks with normal blocks on L1. To do that I chose the first 2761 blocks which were accepted until June 20th:

These 2761 Blocks, contained 306087 Transactions on layer2 StarkNet (almost 111 transactions). They generated 48.75 ETH in fees which means 0.0176558468 ETH per Block and 0.0001592612329 ETH per Transaction. These are very low in comparison with other L1 Transactions.

For a better understanding of the situation, I gathered information about all the blocks on L1 on June 20th

On that day, 11268 Blocks were confirmed (more than 2Mtransactions) and they generated 577.72 ETH on fees which means 0.513 ETH per Block and 0.002803 ETH per Transaction.

    Difference

The following tables show the differences between L1 and L2 fees

    Loading...

Each block on L1 generated 29.04 times greater fees in comparison to each block from L2

    Loading...

This number for transactions is 17.6. that means each transaction on L2 is 17.6 times cheaper than the same transaction on L1

    Conclusion

    • 2896 layer2 StarkNet blocks have been accepted on Ethereum (L1) chain
    • 50.31 ETH was paid by these blocks
    • 0.02 ETH per Block
    • On average, transactions on layer2 StarkNet are 17.6 times cheaper than L1 and that saves a lot on fees for users
    • Gas price plays an important role and with increase of Gas Price the gap between fees will be bigger

I would also like to mention that on the chosen date, the average gas price was 32 which is a low number and when this number increases, the difference between fees on these two Layers will be greater.
