Algorand is a decentralized blockchain technology network, with its native currency being known as ALGO.

The idea behind Algorand was to combine features of mainstream, well-established cryptocurrencies–such as decentralization, transactions without a central authority, easy-to-divide tokens–but with added speed and less computing power necessary to run the system.

Algorand is also called the Green Blockchain, because its blockchain is fully carbon neutral.

ASA's

The Algorand protocol supports the creation of on-chain assets that benefit from the same security, compatibility, speed and ease of use as the Algo. The official name for assets on Algorand is Algorand Standard Assets (ASA).

Evaluation of the charts

When we look at the three charts above to answer these question (What are the most popular ASAs on Algorand? How many wallets are holding each ASA? How many transactions happen with these ASAs?) we can determine the following points:

• PLANET is by far the most popular asset on Algorand with the most transactions (150 Million)
• PLANET is followed by two stablecoins, USDC and USDT, but with much less transactions. USDC with 2.4 Million transactions and USDT with a total of 2 Million transactions.
• Those three ASA'S where followed by two other coins Opulous and Smile Coin. Both also have low volume and transactions compared with PLANET.

So what kind of asstes are these:

• USDC and USDT are well known stablecoins

• Smile Coin Payment Gateway enables Web3 for all gaming platforms through payment processing and blockchain integration. ->

How changed these numbers over time?

When I look at the Chart of PLANET, with number of transactions since 2021-01-01, we can see a relativ low volume with a few peaks during the year. In January 2022 we had a massive spike up to 3.8 Million transactions. But afterwards it went down to a similar level as in 2021.

If we take a look at ASA'S by the number of wallets holding those assets, the order of these looks different. Most wallets hold stablecoins (USDC and USDT) and Opulous. PLANET and Smile Coin are distributed over significantly fewer wallets.

PLANET'S 150 Million transactions are only done by 81k wallets. This looks unrealistic. At Smile Coin 57k wallets are execute 1 Million transactions, this is also interesting. So we will take a closer look at these coins and wallets.

PLANET transactions

Most transactions are coming from just one wallet ZW3ISEHZUHPO7OZGMKLKIIMKVICOUDRCERI454I3DB2BH52HGLSO67W754. It is a contract belonging to PlanetWatch. TXs are so high because of the interaction with this contract.

Smile Coin

With Smile Coin it is a bit different. Most transactions coming from three wallets.

Most transactions are from BNPDMNEPW3BOZDEFH2WZZDT7LK3KH4EAIMXWPJNNNYL5C24JJFHXZT2DOU which seems to belong to Tinyman Pool SMILE-ALGO The other two are unclear, could be just whales or other contracts:

When we check the graph for Smile Coin, it looks different. We see an increas of transaction with a lot of spikes. The biggest, with around 75k, was at the 13th of December 2021, after that the transaction decreased with a few spikes.

The huge transaction numbers are mainly caused by a few massive spikes. The rest of the time the numbers are relatively low.
