Methodology

First we will see the total number of Metamask wallet holders.

Since there is no way for us to know all the Metamask wallet holders, we will see the total number of users that have used the native Metamask Swap functionality.

Then we will see the daily number of active users and daily number of transactions along with the 7 day average for both.

Then we will see the average, maximum, minimum and median value of ETH held in these wallets.

Finally we will see how many of these wallets have participated in activities like staking and providing liquidity.

The total number of users who have used the native Metamask Swap functionality is ~1.29M.

The above charts show the daily number of active users using Metamask swap functinality and daily number of transactions along with the 7 day average for both.

We can see that the peak for both the metrics was reached on 25th December after which the market started correcting significantly.

The previous peak for both metrics was reached on 9th May 2021 after which also the market cooled down significantly.

It seems that Metamask swap activity is a good indicator for the overall market sentiment.

Out of the ~1.29M wallets using Metamask swaps, about ~1.18M wallets have ETH in their wallets.

The average value of ETH held in wallets is 1.03 ETH.

Although the average is quite high, it is highly affected by large whales as seen in the maximum ETH balance of ~30K ETH and median ETH balance of 0.02 ETH.

Out of the ~1.29M wallets using Metamask swaps, about 17.15% (~221.5K) of wallets have engaging in staking.

Out of the ~1.29M wallets using Metamask swaps, about 5.81% (~75.1K) of wallets have engaging in providing liquidity.

Summary

• The total number of Metamask wallets is ~1.29M.

• The number of daily active Metamask wallets and daily swaps are a good indicator for the overall market sentiment because it peaked twice on 9th May 2021 and 25th December 2021 after which the market cooled down significantly.

• The average value of ETH held in wallets is 1.03 ETH. However the median value of ETH held in wallets is only 0.02 ETH.

• 17.51% and 5.81% of wallets have engaged in staking and providing liquidity respectively.
