Polygon Block Performance
Intro
In this dashboard, We are looking to see the performance of blocks on layer 2 Polygon network. We’ll take a close loo into blocks and answer the below questions:
What is the average time between blocks on Polygon?
What was the maximum and minimum recorded time between two blocks? How many transactions are done in a block on average?
How do these numbers compare to L1 such as Flow or Solana, or other L2 such as Arbitrum or Optimism?
Definition
Blocks are data structures within the blockchain database, where transaction data in a cryptocurrency blockchain are permanently recorded.
In above graphs we could see the transactions number are done in a block on Polygon and compression of it with some other blockchains.
According to recent updated polygon table of Flipside, minimum number of transactions on Polygon is 2.
Maximum number of transactions that have done so far on this layer 2 is 1332 transactions.
Average number of transactions is 74.8
Comparing this numbers with other blockchains, in terms of maximum number, Solana recorded 6912 transactions , a huge number and way more than Polygon. In terms of minimum number, all chains recorded 0 transaction besides Optimism which had 1 transaction. By looking into average chart, Solana average transactions number in a block is 2039, this number is much more than Polygon that had only 74.8 transactions.
In this section we'll examine that time duration between blocks on Polygon and compare the number we calculate with the time of other chains.
Maximum time that it took between two blocks to create is 25 seconds. Minimum and shortest time that took for this job is 2 seconds and finally average time between blocks for Polygon is 2.27 seconds.
Let's compare this numbers with times of other blockchains and see what chain has better results
In terms of maximum time between blocks, For Flow it tooks 90 seconds which is the longest time and between chains. After Flow, Optimism and Polygon is the second and third place. Taking a look at the minimum times, Optimism with 15 seconds is the slowest. In terms of average time between blocks, again Optimism recorded the high value which makes it the slowest chain. Solana and Flow by average times of 1.23 and 1.41 seconds has the best times between all chains.
Below charts shows the daily average time and transactions number between blocks on all chains.
Conclusion
Minimum transactions number in a block on Polygon is 0, maximum number 1332 and average number is 74.48 transactions. When we compared them to other chains we saw that Solana has better results.
We also looked for minimum, maximum and average time between blocks on Polygon and compared them with other chains. Results showed us minimum time between blocks on Polygon is 2 seconds, maximum time is 25 seconds
and average time is 2.27 seconds.
Comparing chains on this term showed us Polygon is better than Flow and Optimsim on maximum time. Also we saw the minimum and average time of chains and according to the results,
Polygon had short time compared to Optimism but longest time between Flow and Solana.
