Up The Mountain

An Avalanche has been building up steam as of late — the price of AVAX rose by nearly 100% in the month of January and BTC hodlers have been moving holdings to the Avalanche chain.

The Avalanche blockchain is a highly scalable and decentralized platform that aims to provide a new level of interoperability among digital assets and decentralized applications. Launched on September 21, 2020, its mainnet was built to tackle the issue of slow transaction speeds and limited scalability faced by traditional blockchain networks. With its unique architecture, the Avalanche network allows for the creation and management of thousands of subnets, each capable of processing thousands of transactions per second. This has made it a popular choice for developers looking to launch new decentralized applications and digital assets.

The Avalanche Bridge™ protocol can be used to transfer BTC from Bitcoin to the Avalanche® C-Chain and vice versa. This document answers common questions about bridging between the Bitcoin and Avalanche networks.

Where can I actually bridge my BTC to Avalanche®? Users can download the Core browser extension to access BTC bridging. Note that BTC bridging is currently ONLY available through the Core extension. BTC bridging with the Avalanche Bridge™ is not supported with Metamask or any other wallet. This is because the Core extension was custom-built to support Bitcoin and the Avalanche Bridge™ and to handle the technical problems of linking Bitcoin and EVM chains within a wallet. Do not attempt to use any wallet other than the Core extension for BTC bridging – you may lose all your funds.
