    Network Performance Dashboard

Q95. Create a dashboard displaying Solana network performance over time.

    \n \n

    Introduction

Solana is very popular for the fact that it can handle a huge amount of transactions per second, way more than any other blockchain. Looking past the issues of centralization that are behind this, it is interesting to see how the Solana TPS (Transactions Per Second) has held up during the past year.

    Methodology

    This dashboard will analyze:

    • The average TPS during the month of June 2022, as well as every day since the beginning of the year.
    • The reasons behind drops or spikes in average TPS.
    • The success rate of Transactions and the places where they fail most often.

The data shown in these charts indicated that the TPS on Solana has been generally rising. There are occassionally dips and 2 severe drops, but an uptrend all together. I believe the main reason behind this would be the fact that there are less NFT collections being released, so there is less incentive for people to use bots. Furthermore, the price of SOL has dropped a lot in the past weeks, so running a node is a lot cheaper and more accessible. More nodes leads to faster blocks and more transactions being processed.

Solana is also known for the number of transactions that are dropped or “fail”. The number of transactions that fail usually hovers around the 50% mark, with the number dropping as botting dies down. The Pie Chart also shows the programs with the most failed transactions over the past month. Most of the time, is it a transaction to transfer a token.

    Conclusion // Key Takeaways

As NFTs fall more and more in volume and popularity, the amout of botting and minting on Solana has dropped severely. I believe this is the main reason the amount of failed transactions and the TPS has been increasing.

    • Failed transactions are down on the month, with the percent of transactions failed falling below 50%.
    • The average TPS has risen above the 2000 mark and has been increasing daily since.
